Abstract
The method involves measuring a lamp voltage (U) and current (I), comparing them with a demand value and generating a status signal that can adopt the values lamp on and lamp off. The status signal is set and stored if the lamp current exceeds an upper demand value and is reset if the lamp current falls below a lower demand value and the lamp voltage exceeds a demand value. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for generating a status signal regarding the operating state of a high pressure gas discharge lamp in a motor vehicle.
