Abstract

Removal of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from a flue gas stream (I) containing oxygen comprises (a) treating (I) with an electric gas discharge; (b) passing the treated (I) over a basic storage material (II) for storing (I) in the form of nitrates and discharging the purified (I) to the atmosphere; and (c) regenerating spent (II) by removing it from the (I) stream and treatment with a reducing regenerative gas stream to form ammonia.
