Abstract

The invention relates to a method and device for the production of a striplike pre-material made of metal, using rollers (11,12) in a roll stand (2) defining a roll gap (13) The metal strip (16) is rolled between said two rollers (11,12) in successive segments in two or more rolling steps. Said metal strip (16) is recalled between two successive rolling steps and the recalled section of the metal strip (16) is rolled once again. The method and device are used to produce a pre-material with a very high surface quality and very low thickness tolerances (e.g. for proofs) and to produce a correspondingly precise pre-material with a profiled section, whereby the cross-sectional form thereof does not extend in the longitudinal direction of the metal strip (16) from the beginning to the end of said strip, but is arranged crosswise in relation to the longitudinal direction of the metal strip (16) and reoccurs in successive sections of said pre-material, e.g. for pens. The height of the roll gap can be adjusted for the second application.
