Abstract
The suppressant comprises water or a water based solution containing a surfactant which is selected so that on dispersion of the solution towards the fire, e.g. as a jet or under atomisation, the surfactant produces a surface tension value in the solution which becomes at least as low as a predetermined value within 50 milliseconds. The solution may contain an alkali metal salt and the preferred surfactant is a trimethylsilylbutane sulphate salt.
