Abstract
Carbon steel alloys as materials for structures partly or temporarily in contact with living beings, especially humans or used on, in or near the body of living organisms is claimed. The alloys contain 5-26 wt.% manganese, 11-24 wt.% chromium, > 2.5 to 6 wt.% molybdenum , > 0.2 to 2.0 wt.% nitrogen and > 0.1 to 0.9 wt.% carbon, with > 0.3 wt.% C in alloys containing > 0.55 wt.% N, rest iron (Fe), together with unavoidable impurities from smelting and nickel, silicon, sulphur , bismuth , copper, cobalt, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, tungsten, aluminium, boron, cerium and calcium in individual amounts NOTGREATER 2.0 wt.%. The material has austenitic structure after chilling from a solution annealing temperature in the 950-1260 degrees C range and hence is not ferromagnetic.
