Abstract
The process for protective surface coating of copper material comprises: (a) applying a cover layer alloy (14) onto the copper material (10); and (b) applying the protective layer (18) in an application surface region (32) by supplying protective layer components in the form of a protective layer alloy (38) and melting with a laser beam (22). The protective layer (18) is bonded to the copper material (10) by melting of the copper material in the application surface region. Also claimed is a workpiece of copper material which is surface fused to a protective layer consisting of several adjacent coating beads.
