Abstract

This machine comprises two parallel cooled rolls (1), arranged facing one another so as to delimit, between them, a casting space (2) for the liquid metal (3), two lateral closure plates (4) for this casting space which are placed at the ends of the rolls, an electromagnetic inductor (6, 8) arranged opposite each plate (4) in order to heat the liquid metal bath by induction; each plate (4) is metallic and has a thickness (e) which is less than or equal to the depth of penetration of the said plate by the magnetic field of the inductor (6, 8), the frequency of this field thus being adjusted to a sufficiently low value as a function of the electrical conductibility of the metallic material forming the plates (4). The invention makes it possible to use plates (4) which are very thin compared with those used hitherto while preventing the solidification of the liquid metal (3) in contact with the plates (4). <IMAGE>
