Abstract

An optomagnetic disc that has tracks, e.g., 2 byte pit regions (2a) for servo purposes and, e.g., 16 byte data write-in regions (2b) alternately defined is rotated at a set angular speed. An optical head has a laser diode for producing light to irradiate the disc. A reference clock pulse generator produces clock pulses in response to detection of servo pit regoins by the optical head. A lser drive section effects pulsed drive of the laser diode to erase or write data in data regions in synchronism with the reference clock timing.
