Da das zumessende Ereignis gewöhnlich von sehr kurzer Dauer ist, genügt in den meisten Fällen ein einmaliges Anschlagen der Stimmgabel.
Je nach der Art des zu messenden Vorganges wird sich gegebenenfalls die Verwendung mechanischer optischer oder akustischer Hilfvorrichtungen zur Aufnahme bzw. Übertragung der Phasen desselben auf den Spiegel bzw. zur Beeinflussung des Lichtbündels empfehlen. So kann der Spiegel beispielsweise auf einer Telephonmembrane angeordnet werden. Zur Messung der Geschwindigkeit drehender Bewegungen kann das Lichtbündel selbst durch eine mit gleicher Geschwindigkeit rotierende Blende unterbrochen werden. Bei Anordnung von Bürstenkontakten und einer Funkenstrecke können die auftretenden Funken mittels eines feststehenden Spiegels auf die Bildfläche projiziert werden.
