Trommeltrocbter.

Drum drummer.
The invention relates to a drum dryer to which heated air, steam or another desiccant is supplied under pressure in a known manner in order to dry grain, sugar, casein, seeds, plant matter, nuts, fruits or the like therein. The drum dryer, the further embodiment of which forms the subject of the invention, consists in a known manner of several chambers arranged next to one another along the horizontal drum axis, separated by vertical perforated walls, in each of which a spiral is installed, which carries conveyor blades on its inside and to the neighboring ones Spirals is wound in the opposite sense.
According to the invention, the conveyor blades consist of U-shaped troughs arranged transversely to the plane of the die, whose upright wall at the rear in the direction of rotation forms a kind of pocket; the front upright wall opposite the pocket forms an inward sloping baffle for the falling material.
The purpose of this design of the conveyor blades is that through the pocket the dry material is carried up above the highest point of the respective rising spiral part and that the falling material is then appropriately dispersed by the guide wall.
In the drawing, the subject of the invention is shown in Fig. 1 in side view and partially in longitudinal section, u. between without the bearings for the shaft and without the device for rotating the same.
Figure 2 is a cross section taken on line 2-2 and Figure 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1; Fig. 4 shows part of the outlet end of the drum dryer.
The dryer consists of a series of disk-shaped, vertical chambers a, b, which are firmly attached next to one another on the drum axis c. The first chamber of the inlet end of the dryer is closed at the end face by a vertical perforated wall or the like, which is held by a disk e on the shaft and by an outer rim ring f.
The chambers are separated from one another by walls g made of porous or perforated material, advantageously made of a fabric. Each chamber contains a spiral that fills the width of the chamber and carries conveyor blades for the dry material on its inside. These spirals are in turn wound alternately in one sense or the other. The chambers a have the inlet i for the material to be dried on the circumference or on the outer edge, so that the material moves towards the center when the dryer rotates in the spiral drying channel. The chambers b have the inlet for the material near the shaft c, so that the material moves in spirals towards the circumference when it rotates, in contrast to the direction of movement of the material in the chambers a.
The material to be treated is introduced through a funnel t, from where it enters the first chamber a lhrch an inlet opening i (Fig. 1) in the first or outer turn at k (Fig. 2). The spiral channel of each chamber is formed by a thin strip 1 of sheet metal, wire mesh or other suitable material, which is laid in spiral windings (Fig. 2,3) and is advantageously closed on each side by the walls g mentioned.
As soon as the material has reached the inner end of the spiral channel in the first chamber a, it passes into the inner end of the spiral channel in the adjacent chamber b through the opening m (FIG. 1)

(Fig. 4), where even the material emerges in a dry state, for example through an automatic \ blass device or flap.
The strips I are held by radial spokes p, which are connected at their outer ends by riding t.
Each spiral is provided with fore blades u on its inside. These blades simultaneously form supports or abutments for the turns of the strip l; but they could be mounted on the spokes anyway. Each shovel consists of a U-shaped trough lying transversely to the plane of rotation and thus also to the spiral channel, which expediently has the width of the chamber and is laterally limited by its walls. Of the two walls of this trough lying in the plane of rotation, the upright wall at the rear in the direction of rotation becomes a kind of pocket x and the front wall lying opposite becomes one
EMI2.1
It is assumed with reference to FIG. 2 that a charge of the material is deposited in the direction of the arrow drawn in the lower part of the channel.
The baffles z and the pockets a; penetrate the dry material, whereby the trough is loaded with the same. As soon as the trough (conveyor shovel) continues to rotate from this point, the material is moved forward and lifted by the shovels. Some of the still moist or wet material falls from the shovels onto the
Lower part of the spiral channel and ratchets down to the following blade, whereas the one in the pocket a; suspended material is carried along up to the highest point and then scattered when it slips through the baffle z, etc. Due to this delay when the material slips through the
Stir and fall through the room filled with heated air, further through the shear effect or
Friction of the parts against each other and finally through the impact of dry material on less dry material, the treated material is exposed to the action of heat for an extended period of time without having to fear that the material will agglomerate or cake in any part of its course, The U-shaped blades with the parts x and s can be attached in the entire length of the spiral channel, or it can. As FIGS. 2 and 3 show, it may be advantageous to mount these blades only in the outer part of the spiral channel and to arrange ordinary U-shaped blades on its inner, shorter turns.
When the material gets into the next chamber, it is in the reverse direction along the spiral path, u. with the same effect as when passing through the previous chamber.
The desiccant is driven through the annular flange 2 (Fig. 1, right end) in countercurrent to the material and distributed through the porous or perforated walls g via the spiral channels.
The hottest air mixes first with the most dried material. so that it is prevented from being burned.
