 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

The invention relates to kneadable gland packs of the known type. In which metal kÖl11er. Fat. Graphite and fillers with or without the addition of fibers to form a kneadable mass
 EMI1.2
Such metal sponge grains are obtained according to the invention in that, in direct contrast to the known processes mentioned above, molten metal, e.g. B. bearing metal, with constant vigorous stirring is gradually entered into floeken graphite. As a result, in addition to a solidified lump of metal, grains of sponge metal are obtained, which are used for the production of the stuffing box lining.

Metal, preferably bearing metal, is introduced in the molten state in flake graphite, the amount of which is about 5 percent by weight of the metal, gradually or in portions with stirring. which is done very vigorously with a kind of shovel. A large part of the metal is converted into metal sponge grains; the remaining solidified lump of metal can be melted down again. Aluminum is made in the same way
 EMI1.3

This granulate becomes flake graphite in a manner known per se. Mountain chalk and other fillers and finally oil or fat added.

These metal granules are mixed in the following way to produce a kneadable, fiber-free stuffing box packing when using bearing metal for normal loads:
