Process for the production of chlorammonium.

According to the invention, chlorammonium is produced by introducing ammonia and hydrochloric acid gas into liquids in which the gases mentioned are soluble and in which the chlorammonium formed is insoluble. Methyl alcohol has proven to be a particularly suitable liquid.

In the execution of the method one proceeds z. B. as follows:
Methyl alcohol is poured into a reaction vessel, the contents of which can be cooled.
 EMI1.1
initiated. After a short time, ammonium chloride separates out in crystalline form. Depending on the predominant acid or ammonia content of the solution, the excretion takes place in fine or coarse crystalline form. When the gases are introduced in such a way that a very small excess of hydrochloric acid is present, the advantage is achieved that crystals that settle quickly to the bottom and which can be easily extracted arise and large amounts of salt can be deposited in the methyl alcohol. If the liquid is kept alkaline, the salt separates out more flaky. Substance losses are not to be feared even if not completely dry gases are introduced.

The methyl alcohol can be used over and over and also concentrated from time to time.

The process offers the advantage that the chlorammonium is obtained in pure form directly, eliminating the need to evaporate solutions or mother liquors. This avoids substance losses, which occur when the chlorammonium is concentrated, which dissociates strongly in aqueous solution.
