<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to a contactlessly acting data carrier, consisting of an electronic module with a transmission stage, optionally a reception stage and a data memory, and a transmission / reception coil.
Such data carriers have become known in a large number of embodiments.
The present invention is primarily concerned with data carriers in RF technology. This technology (radio-frequency) uses low-frequency magnetic fields in the range from 100 kHz to a few MHz for communication between data carriers and associated coding and reading stations. The coding or reading station emits an electromagnetic field. If a data carrier comes into this field, it takes the necessary energy from this field to supply its electronic module and sends the stored data by damping the field. The coding or reading station recognizes the transmitted data from the rhythm of the damping and opens, for example, a turnstile, a door or reacts in a different, predetermined manner depending on the respective application.
The electronic module of the data carrier can contain a ROM (permanently programmed number), a PROM (programmable number or user data) or a read / write memory, for example in EEPROM technology.
All electrical and electronic functions of the electronic module are advantageously contained in a single chip which is connected to the transmit / receive track.
Known embodiments of such data carriers are similar to a check or bank card. For this purpose, the electronic module is pressed together with the transmitting / receiving track between thermoplastic cover layers. These cards are justified in many applications because they are known and learned. It is disadvantageous that they are attached during use, as they may not be legible inside the wallet or ID card pocket. In particular, if the user carries several such data carriers in his wallet, the data carriers interfere with one another, or it can no longer be determined which card is to be read or used.
EMI1.1
The applicant has therefore made the proposal to design such data carriers as wristwatches.
Such a data medium can practically not be forgotten or lost, and safe use is also made easier. The disadvantage here is that the installation of the data carrier in a wristwatch is technically complex.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A large number of other embodiments are known, for example in the form of a glass tube. The tube is mainly used in animal identification. This form is not suitable for humane applications.
The object of the invention is therefore to create an embodiment of the generic data carrier that avoids the disadvantages mentioned. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the data carrier is designed as an assembly that can be connected to a wristwatch preferably by a snap connection can be easily attached to an existing wristwatch of the user and is securely readable, since it can be easily moved by an arm movement to the coding or Reader can be performed. It can be disturbed far less by other data carriers of the same technology. The effort to integrate in a wristwatch is eliminated without affecting the advantages of this application.
The transmission / reception coil and the electronics module are preferably embedded in an annular plastic body, for example encapsulated with a thermoplastic.
If the ring-shaped plastic body is designed to be elastic and shaped in such a way that it grips underneath an associated wristwatch between the band connections and overlaps in the region of the band connections, it can simply be snapped onto and removed from a wristwatch.
In many cases it is also possible for the ring-shaped plastic body to be designed as a replaceable component of an associated wristwatch, for example as a decorative or adjusting ring. For this purpose, the component is at least partially designed to be form-fitting or non-positively corresponding to parts of the wristwatch.
An advantageous exemplary embodiment is characterized in that the transmission / reception coil and the electronics module are embedded in a plastic body which can be fastened to the bottom of an associated wristwatch, the transmission / reception coil being arranged in a ring on the circumference of the wristwatch.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
For the visual control of the assignment of the data carrier to a person, it is advantageous that the assembly bears a visually readable, unique number.
The invention is described in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments.
1 shows the diagram of a reading / coding station and of the data carrier, FIG. 2 shows the communication protocol between data carrier and reading / coding station, FIG. 3 shows the basic components of the data carrier, FIG. 4 shows a data carrier designed as a decorative ring, and 5 and 6 show examples of an embodiment as an elastic plastic ring 7 and 8 Examples of an embodiment as a rubber-elastic assembly. FIG. 1 shows a simplified block diagram of a transmitter / receiver station (receiver / transmitter) and a data carrier (transponder). The transmitting / receiving station consists of a personal computer which is connected to an antenna via an interface. In the simplest case, the antenna consists of a wire loop with one or more turns.
This transmitting / receiving station transmits electromagnetic waves with a frequency of 150 kHz, for example, as designated in FIG. 2 by "call".
If a data carrier comes into the reception area of this electromagnetic field, an electrical voltage is induced in a resonant circuit which is matched to the transmission frequency and which a downstream rectifier uses to supply the internal logic and a Schrelb read-only memory. Furthermore, the clock frequency for the internal logic is extracted from the resonant circuit.
The data carrier now sends a response by the logic reading the data content of the memory and short-circuiting its resonant circuit via the rectifier. The transmitting / receiving station evaluates the data sent by the field vaporization and, if necessary, transmits new data to the data carrier.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The corresponding transmission sequence is referred to in FIG. 2 as `` write '' and consists, for example, of short field interruptions at the transmitting / receiving station. After completing this write process, the data carrier responds again to verify the data that has been read in (verify).
This completes the communication between the data carrier and the sending / receiving station. Applications can be found, for example, in access control, where a turnstile, a door or the like is opened after checking the data of a data carrier (ticket).
In the given example, all electronic components of the data carrier are integrated in an ASIC (application-specific circuit), only the coil of the resonant circuit is designed as a discrete component. The arrangement described works as a transponder, that is to say the data carrier is in principle passive and only responds when it is requested by the transmitting / receiving station. It does not require its own power supply, since this is generated from the field of the sending / receiving station. The memory is a non-volatile read / write memory in EEPROM technology. However, the invention is also applicable to other known technologies and data transmission methods.
FIG. 3 shows the electronic module of a data carrier 1 according to the invention. It consists of a ring-shaped coil 3 and an application-specific circuit 4, which integrates all the necessary functions. This circuit is mounted on a small carrier and connected to the coil 3. The coil turns are stuck together with heat. The circuit 4 is also glued to the coil.
FIG. 4 shows a section of a conventional wristwatch 2, the upper part of which usually carries a ring. Such rings are used, for example, in diving watches in order to be able to set the start of the diving process. This ring is replaced by assembly 1 in the invention. The assembly 1 consists of a plastic body 5 which is clipped onto the correspondingly shaped English glass 7 of the wristwatch 2 by means of an elastic snap connection 6. The coil 3 and the electronics module 4 are glued or plastered in a nng shape groove of the plastic body 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
FIG. 5 also uses an annular plastic body 5, which grips under the wristwatch between the band connections 8 and engages over the band connections 8 in the region thereof. The module 1 designed in this way can be snapped onto an associated wristwatch 2. The plastic body 5 in the example according to FIG. 5 engages with elastic holding lugs from the bottom over the housing of a wristwatch 2.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 7, the plastic body 5 of the assembly 1 consists of a rubber-elastic material and can thus be pushed onto a suitable wristwatch 2 from below, the bands being inserted into openings. A similar design is shown in FIG. 8, but the bracelets 9 are also formed in one piece.
