PATENT-ANSPRÜCHE : i.

in any case, the further treatment of the body is different from the present procedure. This is about enriching the precipitate formed from water glass and ferric chloride in solution with the exchangeable base. In the present case, this can only be potash or soda and accordingly the treatment with corresponding chemicals, that is to say sodium carbonate or caustic soda or potassium carbonate or caustic potash, must also take place. The former have proven to be the most appropriate, namely when used as hot as possible, but preferably at boiling.
Ammonia is not a suitable base for practical water purification, and it is unlikely that it will be included in the present silicic acid compound as a practically exchangeable base. Treatment with ammonia could therefore not result in any improvement in the base exchange capacity.
PATENT CLAIMS: i. Process for increasing the base exchange capacity of the precipitate made from water glass and dissolved iron salts, characterized in that the precipitate mentioned is treated with hot alkali.
