Verfahren zur Gewinnung von Messing aus Schmelzasche u. dgl.
Diese Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Gewinnung von Messing aus Schmelzasche u. dgl., welche in Guss- und Schme1ztiegeln zurückbleibt, nachdem das Metall ausgegossen wurde.
Dieser Erfindung gemäss wird die erwähnte Asche auf 10500 bis 12500 C erhitzt und eine zeitlang bei dieser Temperatur gerührt oder geknetet. Die Asche kann in einem Schmelztiegel oder geeigneten Schmelzofen erhitzt werden ; bei einer Temperatur von über ico"C wird die Masse weich ; wenn das flüssige Metall gerührt oder geknetet wird, so ballt es sich zusammen und sammelt sich, so dass es in Gussformen gegossen werden kann.
Das Umrühren oder Kneten soll so lange fortgesetzt werden, bis das Metall sich sammelt.
Es ist wünschenswert, eines oder mehrere der gewöhnlichen Flussmittel (Borax, Glas o. dgl.) zu verwenden, so dass diese mit den Verunreinigungen und unreduzierten Oxyden eine schmelzbare Schlacke bilden und als Abschluss auf der Oberfläche der geschmolzenen Masse schwimmen. Die so erhaltene Schlacke, welche eine gewisse Menge Kupfer und Zink enthält, kann elektrolytisch aufgeschlossen werden.
Eine erhöhte Ausbeute von Messing kann durch die Anwendung eines geeigneten Reduktionsmittels, wie Holzkohle oder Borkupfer, aus der Asche erhalten werden.

This invention relates to a method of recovering brass from melt ash and the like. Like. Which remains in the casting and crucibles after the metal has been poured out.
According to this invention, the ash mentioned is heated to 10500 to 12500 C and stirred or kneaded for a while at this temperature. The ashes can be heated in a crucible or suitable furnace; at a temperature above ico "C the mass becomes soft; when the liquid metal is stirred or kneaded, it clumps and collects so that it can be poured into molds.
Stirring or kneading should be continued until the metal collects.
It is desirable to use one or more of the common fluxes (borax, glass or the like) so that they form a fusible slag with the impurities and unreduced oxides and float on the surface of the molten mass as a seal. The slag obtained in this way, which contains a certain amount of copper and zinc, can be digested electrolytically.
An increased yield of brass can be obtained from the ashes by using a suitable reducing agent such as charcoal or boron copper.
