Device for rendering steam chemically inactive before it enters a turbine or other steam engine.
The present invention relates to improvements in the utilization of steam in turbines and other machines and relates to a device for protecting steam turbines and steam engines of other types against corrosion.
It is known that the steam has a corrosive effect on the casings, rotors and blades of steam turbines, in particular in turbine systems for ships.
It has been found that this corrosive effect is mainly due to the salts, especially sodium chloride and magnesium chloride, which are carried along with the steam from the boilers, since leaks in the condensers or in other ways sometimes lead to salts getting into the boilers. The corrosion occurs as a result of the chemical action of the salts on steel or cast iron, which is the body of the rotors or housing

are made.
The corrosion primarily only occurs in the very first rows of blades and strips with which the live steam comes into contact.
The purpose of the invention is now to avoid this corrosive effect. The essence of the device upstream of the turbine or other steam engine, by means of which the steam is chemically ineffective before it enters the turbine or another steam engine, consists in the fact that the steam experiences a slight pressure drop as it passes through the device in intimate contact with at least two different, closely spaced metals

Machine parts are manufactured, or are no less effective than these, so that the entire corrosive effect of the steam is already in the facility at the expense of both,

In one embodiment of the invention, the cleaner a is switched on as usual in the line through which the steam is fed into the turbine. The cleaner consists of a number of chambers b through which the steam passes simultaneously and in the same direction.
It enters at g and flows out of the cleaner at h, taking the paths indicated by the arrows. D. e chambers are provided with through openings j for this purpose and perforated partitions c are built into each chamber, which alternately call plates d and e made of brass and steel, which likewise

and those contained in the Dampi. the salts that cause corrosion are ineffective. before they reach the turbine parts.
In this way the I) anipf for T (ile becomes chemically inactive, even before it is let into the turbine
The action which occurs within the device appears to be mainly chemical. in that the iron plates are attacked by the salts contained in the steam, principally by sodium chloride and hydrochloric acid, the latter being the result of the chemical interaction between the steam and the
