Die Wirkungsweise des Apparates ist wie folgt.
Das durch das Rohr 1 zugeleitete Gasgemisch wird durch die Trockensubstanz im Gefäss 2 auf einen konstanten Feuchtigkeitsgehalt gebracht bzw. völlig getrocknet. Das Gasgemisch streicht darauf durch das Verbrennungsrohr J'hindurch, wo seine Sauerstoff-und Wasseratoffkomponenten unter dem Einfluss der Wärme und gegebenenfalls der katalytischen Substanz miteinander reagieren unter Bildung von Wasser, so dass das vorher trockene Gas erneut einen Wasser- gehalt erhält.
Das auf diese Weise erneut mit Wasserdampf beladene Gas gelangt auf dem Wege durch die Schlange 10 bei einer durch den Thermostaten 9 konstant erhaltenen Temperatur in das Gefäss 5 des Haarhygrometers 6 und beeinflusst hier das feuchtigkeitsempfindliche Organ desselben, wodurch dieses veranlasst wird, den Zeiger 7 der relativen Feuchtigkeit des Gases entsprechend gegenüber der Skala 8 einzustellen. Die Ablesung an der Skala 8 ergibt unmittelbar ein Mass für den Gehalt des durch 1 eintretenden Gases an Wasserstoff oder Sauerstoff. Die Anzeige an der Skala 8 ist eine kontinuierliche, so dass alle Veränderungen im Gehalt des Gases an der zu bestimmenden Substanz ohneweiters ersichtlich werden.

Verfahren zum Anzeigen des Gehaltes an Wasserstoff bzw. verbrennbarer Wasserstoffverbindungen oder an Sauerstoff in Gasgemischen durch Verbrennung, dadurch gekennzeichnet. dass das Gasgemisch nach der Verbrennung des darin befindlich gewesenen Wasserstoffes bzw. der Wasserstoffverbindungen oder des Sauerstoffes über den feuchtigkeitsempfindlichen Teil eines Feuchtigkeitsmessers geleitet wird behufs Erzielung einer ununterbrochenen Angabe über den durch die Verbrennung im Gasgemisch erzeugten Wasserdampfgehalt.
