The method described is particularly suitable for removing sulfur from the gases obtained in the manufacture of luminous gas, sometimes coking and in the manufacture of other fuel gases, and to obtain the ammonia contained therein. For this purpose one can work in such a way that the tarred, hydrogen sulphide and ammonia gas is passed through a sodium sulphide solution. Care must be taken to ensure that such a quantity of free sulfuric acid is always formed under the influence of the hydrogen sulphide that this binds all the ammonia and that the copper sulphate solution reacts constantly acidic.
In the event that the gas to be cleaned is insufficient for this purpose
Containing hydrogen sulfide is known in a known manner by heating sulfur or
EMI2.1
Gases (e.g. coke gas, luminous gas, water gas) or the amount of hydrogen sulfide produced by dry distillation of high-sulfur coals that supplements the hydrogen sulfide obtained from the gases to be purified to the required extent.
Of course, the hydrogen sulphide and ammonia do not have to be withdrawn from the gases to be purified at the same time, but one can work in such a way that the ammonia is first removed from the gas with the help of the copper sulphate. removes sulfuric acid obtained by precipitating the copper by means of hydrogen sulfide and then passes the gas through copper sulfate solution to obtain copper sulfide and sulfuric acid.
