Process for reprocessing the washing water from nitrocellulose production.
So far, the production of nitrocellulose has gone poorly! Wash water is lost unused. The nitrating acid, which after the Nit4. tearing by running off. leave, squeezing or centrifuging from the nitriding material cannot be removed, remains in the same and is transferred to and lost with the washing water when it is washed. It is a matter of the loss of a very significant amount of acid, the recovery of which would represent a great economic advance, if one considers that the amounts of acid which are lost in the washing water are about two to three times as large as they are approximately for the production of nitrocelluloses would need.
The process described below has now made it possible to recover and utilize the amounts of acid that were previously lost after nitriding during washing. The washing waters are enriched for this purpose in a suitable manner with acid by z. For example, the water used to wash a first generation of nitrocellulose is used to wash a second generation of nitrocellulose, etc., until a wash water is obtained with such an acidity that it can be worked up to nitric acid and sulfuric acid and recovered .
The processing of the wash water can according to the present invention by one of the known separation processes for nitric acid and sulfuric acid, e.g. B. take place as follows:
The nitric acid contained in the washing water is reduced by reducing agents. z. B. iron vitriol and sulfuric acid or other converted into nitric oxide and these made usable in the form of nitric acid, as in the production of nitric acid from air, etc. The resulting reaction products, such as. B. oxide salts are by suitable reducing agents, such as. 13. Iron, returned in oxide salts and thus reintroduced into the production process, so that unlimited amounts of nitric acid can be converted into nitrogen oxide with the same amounts of reducing agent.
The resulting excess of the reaction bodies is recovered and made further technically usable. Acid washing waters of the nitrocelluloses can be used besides reducing the nitric acid present in them and obtaining the same while at the same time
The sulfuric acid can also be recycled by separating it from one another by distillation and using the nitric acid obtained by distillation again directly for the production of nitrocellulose after it has been mixed with sulfuric acid of suitable strength.
