Cooling device for internal combustion engines with rotating cylinders.
The invention relates to a cooling device for internal combustion engines with rotating cylinders.
In machines with a larger piston diameter, it is difficult to keep the piston in the center cool. The temperature of the center of the piston is determined by the temperature of the cylinder wall, because the piston head has to dissipate its heat to the cylinder wall, unless a cooling system is provided that directly cools the piston head by spraying water, oil or the like. The latter is very difficult to do on machines with rotating cylinders. So you have to dissipate the heat through the cylinder wall.
In the case of water-cooled rotating machines, the water circulation is expediently generated in that a thermosyphon effect is generated, as shown in FIGS. This consists in that bubbles form on the cylinder wall, so that the equilibrium is disturbed and a flow takes place from the cylinder wall 1 to the cooling wall 4. The condition for this flow in water is that the water is heated to over 1000 so that it comes to a boil, so to speak.
Now, however, a pressure arises in the closed water spaces; This naturally retards the formation of bubbles, because the water later boils at increased pressure. For example, a temperature of 1000 to 1200 would arise on the cylinder wall. Since the heat path from the center of the piston to the cylinder wall is relatively long and a temperature gradient is absolutely necessary for heat dissipation, a temperature of approximately 2200 would continuously develop in the center of the piston. As is well known, this high temperature is unsuitable for both the filling and the degree of compression and therefore the performance of the machine. So it is very important to lower the temperature in the center of the bulb.
In order to achieve a reduction in the temperature in the center of the flask, it is proposed to use a low-boiling liquid, e.g. B. alcohol, to choose as the coolant or to evacuate the air space above the liquid, whereby the liquid reaches a lower boiling point. You are then able to significantly reduce the piston temperature in the middle, because the flow of the liquid already takes place at a lower temperature, so that the piston crown may have to be brought to 1600 instead of the 2200 indicated above.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Cooling device for internal combustion engines with rotating cylinders, characterized in that a liquid is used as the coolant, which has a low boiling point per se (z. B. alcohol), or the boiling point is set lower in that in the space above the Liquid a negative pressure is established.
