Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf das Gebiet der elektronischen übertragung von Daten zwischen Personal Computern auf dem Wege des Telefonnetzes. Im Bereich der Personal Computer sind allerdings verschiedene Betriebssysteme im Einsatz, die wiederum die Basis für verschiedene Anwendungsprogramme sind, mit denen Daten, Texte, Tabellen und Formeln verarbeitet werden. Die Erfindung ermöglicht eine solche übertragung von
Information ("Electronic data interchange-EDI") trotz teils nicht kompatibler Betriebssysteme und Anwenderprogramme.
Elektronische Datenübertragung über PC ausserhalb von LANs . bzw. firmeninternen Netzwerken ist überwiegend über das FaxProtokoll, in einem noch sehr schmalen Anwendungsbereich auch über das Internet-Protokoll möglich. Während das erstere die Beschränkungen der Image-Kommunikation aufweist, erfordert das zweite die überwindung von Zugangs-, Bedienungs- und auch Kostenbarrieren. Eine der papiergebundenen Fax-Kommunikation entsprechende einfache Telekommunikation zwischen PCs ohne die Nachteile der Image-Kommunikation gibt es derzeit noch nicht.
Mit der Erfindung wird die übermittlung von Informationen aus der PC-Welt, also die übertragung von abge- speicherten Texten oder Datenbanken, in einer der Fax-übertragung sehr ähnlichen und überaus einfach zu handhabenden Art und Weise ermöglicht. Die Erfindung besteht dabei einerseits aus hardware, nämlich aus einem Diskettenlaufwerk neuer Art, und aus Programmlogik, die als Extraktion eines speziellen Betriebssystems und eines speziellen Anwenderprogrammes mittels Diskette in diese hardware eingebracht wird.

Die Erfindung besteht also in der Hauptsache aus einem externen Laufwerk für herkömmliche PC-Disketten, das mit einem Netzkabel mit einer Stromquelle und mit einem Telefonkabel mit dem Telefonnetz verbunden wird. Es weist weiters auf seiner Oberfläche eine ähnlich wie auf Faxgeräten übliche Telefonwahltastatur samt Display für die gewählte Nummer auf.
Der Erfindungsgegenstand erfüllt somit folgende Funktionen : - das Disketten-Facsimile-Gerät (Abkürzung : DFG) wird an eine
Stromquelle, das Telefonkabel an einen Telefonstecker, etwa temporär statt eines Faxgerätes, angesteckt. Die Verbindung zum Telefonnetz kann auch eine dauerhafte sein. wenn der
Stecker des DFG eine Zuschaltmöglichkeit für den Faxsecker und das DFG eine Weiche (vergleichbar der Fax-Weiche) hat
