Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the preparation of therapeutically active substances.
The bile substance consists of a mixture of partly known and partly unknown substances. The total amount of these substances is toxic to the animal organism.
The present method now has the purpose of isolating the therapeutically valuable substances of the bile. It consists in adding acid to fresh bile - expediently in a diluted state - filtering off the precipitated dye and bile acids and separating the active substance in solid form from the filtrate with alkalis. The product obtained in this way has the property of being as good as nontoxic for normal organisms, while it has toxic effects for pathologically altered organisms which, for example, manifest themselves in a pronounced focal reaction in organisms with tuberculosis.
Example:
100 g of bile are diluted with 400 g of water and 20 g of hydrochloric acid are added.
The mixture is filtered and the booked substance is precipitated from the filtrate with sodium hydroxide solution. The active substance separates in the form of a precipitate a) and is obtained as a slightly brownish powder by filtering off, dissolving with hydrochloric acid and reprecipitating with sodium hydroxide solution and washing with distilled water.
Instead of caustic soda grains, other alkalis and bases have been used for precipitation.
