Die Abschrägung am Ende des Laufes L hat den Zweck, die Erreichung des Kleingehirnes mit dem Geschosse zu erleichtern, da erfahrungsgemäss nur in diesem Falle die unmittelbare Tötung des Tieres erfolgt. Bei grossem Vieh muss das Geschoss 8 bis 9 cm in den Schädel eindringen : darnach richtet sich die Länge des Pistolenlaufes, welcher bei Anwendung von 60 Atm. Druck einen Durchmesser von 35 bis 40 mm, je nach der Viehgrösse, haben soll.
Der Hub des Kolbens K wird durch die an geeigneter Stelle im Laufe vorgesehene Öffnung o begrenzt, durch welche das Gas entweicht, sobald sie vom hinteren Kolbenende überschritten worden ist. Durch die Feder F wird der Kolben K sodann wieder in die Anfangslage zurückgeführt.
Die Stopfbüchse b soll nicht allein die Führung des Bolzens P besorgen, sondern denselben ausserdem auf dem Rückweg von etwa anhaftendem Blut oder dgl. befreien.
