Description

Galvanic bath for coating metal objects with other metals.
The invention concerns the deposition of gold, silver, platinum, copper, zinc, nickel, tin and lead or of alloys of these metals on metal surfaces; in particular, the electroplating of objects made of iron or steel comes into consideration.
According to the invention, the electrolyte is produced in such a way that the salt of the metal to be deposited or the metal salts concerned are dissolved in an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium glycerol borobenzoate. The sodium supplement is preferable.
Borax is used extensively in the autogenous welding process and in similar cases as a reducing agent or flux because it readily dissolves metal oxides. In a similar way, the reducing agent in an electrolyte has a dissolving effect on an oxidized and therefore disadvantageous surface for electroplating, without the surface itself being attacked.
Sodium glycerol borobenzoate can be made by mixing equal parts by weight of sodium boroblyceride and sodium borobenzoate. Both preparations are readily available.
The electrolyte for the deposition of a single metal can be prepared by placing a salt or salts of the metal in an aqueous solution of sodium tycerol borobenzoate, e.g. B. in the ratio of 2, '3 salt to / j solution dissolves; If a metal alloy is to be electroplated, the solutions of the various metal salts in the reducing agent are first prepared individually, as just described, and the individual solutions are then mixed with one another, the mixing and quantity ratios depending on the metals of the alloy.
