Zahnreinigungsvorrichtung.

Tooth cleaning device.
Tooth-cleaning devices with rotating brushes are known in which the brush and its drive are combined and stored in a housing which itself serves as a handle and the drive is conveyed by a flexible cable. The object of the invention consists in such a tooth cleaning device, which is further developed in such a way that the housing continues in an arm which is rotatable and lockable about its longitudinal axis and which is bent sideways at the end and which receives the flexible cable, so that when the locking device is switched off, the arm can be adjusted laterally either by the drive device or directly by hand. This device therefore combines great handiness and cheapness with the advantages of rotating brushes for cleaning teeth.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in elevation and cross-sectional view, for example. A bevel gear c, which is driven by means of an outwardly projecting crank b and with which a second bevel gear d on the shaft e is in engagement, is mounted in an oval housing a serving as a carrier. Connected to this shaft is a flexible, torsion-resistant cable, tube f or the like, which carries at its free end a chuck g for brushes 11 of any shape to be used and which is curved at its upper end and forms part of the housing this attached arm i is protected against damage and guided.
This arm carries a disk 1 provided on its edge with grooves k, is rotatably mounted in the housing a and can be stubbed with respect to the same by a ratchet lever to be brought into engagement with the grooves of the disk I.
The mode of operation of the device is as follows: The crank b, through the intermediary of the gear mechanism c, d, causes the shaft e and da. The brush 11, which is connected to the latter by the flexible organ f, is also set in rotation and is guided over the teeth.
The lateral adjustment movement of the arm i can be carried out by hand or, with the locking device switched off, as a result of the friction between the shaft e and the sleeve surrounding the same, rigidly connected to the arm i, also by operating the crank el b. This makes it possible for in p. :
1- \ marginally preserved housing serving as a handle a to clean the back of the teeth and the gaps between the teeth in a comfortable and thorough manner. It is clear that, if some of the advantages guaranteed by the described embodiment of the device, such as handiness and excellent function, the device could also be changed to the extent that, for example, the transmission gear could be omitted and the crank could be connected directly to the shaft e.
