Explosion flashback protection (water reserve), especially for acetylene devices in autogenous welding systems.

With the advent of autogenous welding using acetylene, which was produced in apparatus specially designed for this purpose, it immediately became apparent that suitable devices should be used to prevent the formation of explosive gas mixtures in the acetylene apparatus and a flashback from the welding torch in the apparatus, in order to prevent accidents prevent explosions of the apparatus. So-called water reservoirs are currently used as such safety devices.

These essentially consist of a vessel filled with water and sealed against the outside air by water, into which the acetylene feed pipe is immersed under water, while the gas exits at another point of the vessel outside the water.
 EMI1.1

With the welding torches common for autogenous welding with the aid of acetylene devices, the combustible acetylene-oxygen mixture is produced in the torch itself.

In all cases, the Sauerster is taken from steel cylinders in which it is compressed under high pressure, with the help of pressure reducing valves. The oxygen flows through the welding torch at a pressure of 1 / 2-3 atm. a small ejector nozzle, whereby the fuel gas is sucked out of the acetylene spare, in which it is under low pressure.

After this ejector nozzle, the two gases are mixed,
 EMI1.2
By relocating the mouth of the burner, it is very easy for the oxygen prevented from passing through the nozzle to push back the lower pressure acetylene and follow it into the acetylene apparatus, thereby producing an explosive gas mixture in the latter.
 EMI1.3

It is therefore required of a water seal, which serves as a safety device, that it allows oxygen returning into the acetylene line to escape into the open without the latter being able to enter the acetylene apparatus. This is established with the help of a riser pipe that leads from the water reservoir of the water reservoir into the open, so that receding oxygen after it has been pushed down by the water surface - with the water in
