<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a forest chain for looping and conveying tree trunks and other wooden parts, consisting of oval, alternately rotated by 900 links, which have a D-profile cross section, with two side surfaces, an outer surface and a round inner surface.
With forest chains, tree trunks are wrapped around and then pulled to a storage area or also lifted onto vehicles.Chains with relatively small links are used so that they can better engage in the bark of the tree or the wooden surface and resistance to slipping arises. Therefore, one is from Round link chains transferred to chains in which the links have a D-profile cross-section, namely one with a round inner surface and two flat side surfaces and a flat outer surface. This measure has increased the grip of the chain by so-called choking "a tree trunk by a lot
Regardless of this, there is a desire for a forest chain that, with simple operation, hardly slips when choking a tree trunk.
This object is achieved with a forest chain of the type mentioned in the introduction, in which, according to the invention, at least one surface of the side surfaces and the outer surface has at least one depression running in the longitudinal circumferential direction of the links.
The depression formed in at least one of the three surfaces mentioned leads to a smaller wedge angle, namely to a wedge angle of less than 90, and thus facilitates the penetration of the edges of the chain links into the tree trunk when choking the same.
In an expedient embodiment, a single, concavely rounded depression is formed in the outer surface, but in order to increase the mentioned effect, a single, concavely rounded depression can also be formed in one or in both side faces.
The depressions mentioned advantageously have a circular fillet, particularly with regard to their manufacture
Furthermore, it is expedient if the edges between the side surfaces and outer surfaces are rounded, since this has a favorable effect on the service life and mechanical strength of the chain.
In a practice-proven design of the forest chain, the D-profile has a width-to-thickness ratio of 0, 9 to 1, 2, and it can in principle be designed with a square cross-section.
The round inner surface is expediently designed with a semicircular profile as before.
In embodiments that have a particularly good grip in practice, it is provided that the depression in the side surfaces has a radius that is 0.35 to 0.65 times the width of the profile. The recess in the outer surface can also have a radius that is 0.7 to 1.1 times the thickness
In the case of designs which have good grip, it is provided that the rounding radius of the edges is less than 1/10 of the thickness or width of the profile
The link division for practical chains is 2, 6 to 4 times the profile width, and the inner link width is 1, 2 to 1, 5 times the profile width
Appropriate, particularly easy-grip variants are characterized by the fact that the wedge angle is 55 to 750.
For forest chains according to the invention, a profile thickness and profile width in the range of 5-10 mm has proven to be particularly favorable.
The invention and further advantages are explained in more detail below with reference to exemplary embodiments which are illustrated in the drawing. In this, 'Fig. 1 shows a tree trunk which is encompassed by a loop of a forest chain according to the invention in a schematic cross section, 2 shows a greatly enlarged detail from FIG. 1, FIG. 3 two adjacent chain links of a forest chain according to the invention, 'Fig. 4 shows the cross section through a leg of a chain link according to the invention in a
Embodiment with concave side surfaces and a concave outer surface, FIG. 5 shows a section similar to FIG. 4 of a chain link according to the prior art with the wedge angle shown, FIG. 6 shows a section similar to FIG.
4 and 5 of a further embodiment according to the invention, likewise with the wedge angle shown,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
. 7 shows a section analogous to FIG. 4, but with the wedge angle drawn in, and FIGS. 8a, b and c show partial variants of the depression or depressions in partial sections.
According to FIG. 1, a tree trunk BAM is wrapped in a forest chain 1 according to the invention, hook 2 attached to the end of the chain being hooked onto chain 1 in the manner shown to form a loop. The way a sling is used to choke the
Tree trunk BAM is not the subject of the invention and can have many variants. When tension occurs, the chain links generally align in such a way that adjacent links are rotated by 900 to one another, but the main planes of the
Links run at an angle of about 450 to the surface of the BAM tree trunk.
If one speaks of a tree trunk in connection with the exemplary description, it should be clear that this stands for wooden parts that have a
Forest chain can be wrapped and moved. It can therefore not only be freshly felled tree trunks, but also processed tree trunks or cut blanks. It goes without saying that the grip of a chain with tree trunks
Bark will be better in most cases than on smooth blanks, e.g. B. debarked
Tree trunks
3 shows two adjacent links 3, 4, wherein it can be seen that each link 3, 4 is oval.
The term novai "is to be understood to mean, for example, that each link can have parallel legs and circular curves, as is the case here, but other link configurations known to the person skilled in the art are possible. The link 4 which appears to be cut in FIG. 3 makes it clear that there is a D-profile cross section , which has an outer surface A, two side surfaces S and an inner surface I, all of these surfaces running around the limb. The outer surface A in this embodiment has a single concave depression 5, which can also be clearly seen in the enlarged section according to FIG In connection with FIG. 6 there is also a basic feature of the invention, namely a wedge angle K that is significantly smaller than 900.
This angle is defined by the tangents at the edges K, at which a side surface S meets the outer surface A. With these edges, as already explained above, the chain 1 generally lies on the tree trunk BAM, and a smaller angle K therefore favors the penetration of the chain 1 with its edges K into the surface, for example the bark of the tree trunk .
5 shows the cross section of a forestry chain 1 according to the prior art, in which both the side surfaces and the outer surface are flat, resulting in a wedge angle K of 900. In the embodiment according to FIG. 6 according to the invention, this lies Angle, however, at about 750.
A further and particularly expedient embodiment can be seen from the section according to FIG. 4, in which both the outer surface A has a recess and both side surfaces S each have a recess. The recesses have a circular rounding with the radii Rs for the side surfaces S and the radius RA for the outer surface A. A rounding radius r for the edges K is also shown in FIG. 4, and the width b and the thickness d of the cross section, i. h of the profile. The inner link width B and the link division T are shown in FIG. 3 as further important dimensions of a forest chain 1.
Returning to the embodiment according to FIG. 4, which corresponds to the somewhat larger embodiment shown in FIG. 7, it can be seen that the formation of depressions also makes the wedge angle K even smaller in the side faces S and is approximately 550 in the exemplary embodiment shown.
In contrast to the side surfaces S and the outer surface A, the inner surface I of the chain links is responsible for the rolling of the chain links against one another, and it is expediently carried out as a semicircular profile.
In practical embodiments, the radius Rs of the recesses 6 in the side faces S is approximately 0.35 to 0.65 times the width b or the thickness d, and the radius of curvature RA of the recess 5 in the outer surface A is approximately 0.7 up to 1.1 times the width b or the thickness d, where their ratio b / d can be between 0.9 and 1.2. The radius RH of the semicircular profile of the inner surface I is of course given by the thickness d, i.e. h it is half the thickness d.
Practice-proven embodiments have a pitch T that is approximately 2.6 to 4 times the profile width b, and an inner link width Bu, dite that is 1.25 to 1.4 times the profile width b
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The specified profile thickness d and profile width b are both in the range of 5 to 10 mm in the case of chains which usually have good grip.
The simplest execution of the depression in the outer surface A or in the side surfaces S is the z. B circular concave depression shown in Fig. 7, but it should be understood that other symmetries of the depression also accomplish the object of the invention. Thus, in FIG. 8a the circular depression according to FIGS. 6 and 7 is shown, next to it in FIG. 8b a depression which essentially drops off from both side edges K towards the center, and in FIG. 8c two adjacent circular depressions are shown which of course, not only on the outer surface A, as in FIG. 8, but also on the side surfaces S and can lead to the desired smaller wedge angles K.
