<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

leads. This measure thus achieves the object of the present invention: foam formation is controlled without mechanical or chemical aids.
Conventional micro or ultrafilters can be used to filter the microorganisms. As is known, the flow rate (permeate flow) of the micro- or ultrafiltration system is strongly dependent on the transmembrane pressure, the overflow rate and the temperature. Optimized operating areas include transmembrane pressures between two and five bar overpressure, overflow speeds between two and five meters per second, and temperatures greater than 15.
C. The
The residence time of the microorganisms in the filtration system should be as short as possible, since the microorganisms are otherwise inactivated or even killed by mechanical stress, the lack of oxygen and other nutrients.
The invention also relates to a plant for carrying out the method according to the invention, which plant is characterized by: a bioreactor for holding liquid medium which is to be treated microbiologically, a circulation line which leads away from the bioreactor and flows into it again, a circulation pump , which is provided in the circulation line, - an injector, which is also provided in the circulation line, and - an air supply line, which is connected to the injector and has a branch line, which in the
Foam zone of the bioreactor opens, where - the bioreactor has an inlet for the liquid medium to be treated, and - in the circulation line a device for filtering microorganisms with an outlet for treated,
Medium largely free of microorganisms is provided between the
Circulation pump and the injector is switched.
A bypass for bridging the filter device is expediently provided in the circulation line. This enables the Fittrattonsantage to be shut down in simple catfish due to an operational disruption.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing. This embodiment is a wastewater treatment plant for the biological treatment of wastewater. In principle, however, the construction of the plant described with this embodiment is similar to a fermenter plant for carrying out fermentation processes, for producing pharmaceuticals (for example antibiotics), etc.
The figure schematically shows a bioreactor 1 in section, a circulation 4 which leads from the lower section of the bioreactor 1 via the pump 5, the microfilter 7 and the injector 2 to an upper section of the bioreactor 1, but below the liquid level. 3 denotes a supply air line connected to the injector 2, which has a branch line 9 which opens into the foam zone 11 of the bioreactor 1. The operation of the system according to the invention is now as follows:
The liquid level of the wastewater in bioreactor 1 is shown with a wavy line. There is foam 11 above the liquid level, which forms during the clarification process.
In the lower section of the bioreactor 1, wastewater treated by means of a pump 5 is drawn off and pressed into the microfiltration system 7 at a pressure of approximately 6 bar with the valve 12 closed. Clarified wastewater leaves the plant via outlet 8; New wastewater is fed to the system via the feed line 10.
A partial flow of the treated wastewater, which, enriched with microorganisms, leaves the filter system 7, is still under a pressure of at least 2.5 bar. This pressure is sufficient to operate the injector 2 so that it can suck in the desired supply air flow from the supply air line 3. In order to suck in pure air, the valve 13 is open and the valve 14 is closed. If the foam detector 15 reports that too much foam has already formed on the liquid level as a result of the clarification process, as shown in the figure, the valve 14 is opened and the valve 13 is closed. From this point in time, the injector 2 sucks gas out of the foam zone 11 of the bioreactor 1 and thus foam. As soon as the foam in the injector is mixed with the motive water flow with high intensity, the foam is automatically destroyed.
If the foam level drops below the set level, the initial state is restored.
In the event that the foam upper limit nevertheless reaches the foam detector 16 due to special circumstances, it can be provided that a defoaming agent is automatically metered into the circulation line via the line 17.
The system shown ensures that the filter system 7 is operated at a high transmembrane pressure level and therefore with good permeate performance. If the filter system 7 due to an operational
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fault must be shut down, we bypassed it with a bypass consisting of a line 6 with valve 12.
A major advantage of the system according to the invention is that it is operated with only one pump. Apart from the controlled valves, this pump is also the only moving part of the system. Moving parts, including the foam destroyer mentioned at the beginning, are subject to e.g. B. in plants for landfill water treatment severe corrosion.
