EMI1.1

EMI1.1
The subject of the present invention is a device for measuring the relative strengths of various noises and tones and consists essentially of a soundproof room which is divided into two compartments by a soundproof wall. The sound vibrations to be examined enter one compartment through an opening. The acoustically rigid wall is provided with a small opening which can be closed gradually by a slide or the like.
The method of determining the strength ratios of noises is based on the fact that, depending on the strength of a sound coming into the first compartment, a different position of the slider u Like. Is necessary to attenuate the same to such an extent that it is no longer perceptible through a sound line connected to the second compartment. With stronger noises the slide will have to be closed more, with weaker noises it will be able to leave a larger opening in the soundproof wall open.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the device in section.
In the housing b is the soundproof wall e, the interior in two

In compartment d, a hole m leads the sound oscillation occurring in this space into suitable apparatus for the purpose of perception. The wall e has a hole h, which can be gradually closed by gradually screwing the conically pointed pin screwed into a threaded bore f in the wall e into the conical end of the bore f. The pin g is provided with a head k,
