<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a device for piston machines, in particular for internal combustion engines, for synchronizing a piston component group with a counterweight component group, in which the component groups by means of at least two pairs of racks, each with one in the
Comb the piston machine of the fixed pinion, are connected in opposite directions.
In the known devices of this type, the toothed racks are guided separately, so that sliding friction occurs, as a result of which a considerable part of the usable output line is lost and the overall efficiency of the machine is reduced.
The purpose of the invention is to adhere to the known synchronizing devices
To remedy defects and thereby to improve the overall structure and the overall efficiency of the piston machines equipped with such devices.
The object is achieved in that the toothed racks of the counterweight component group are rigidly connected directly to one another transversely to the longitudinal direction of the component groups and are guided by the pinions exclusively by means of their toothing.
In a favorable embodiment of the invention, the toothed racks are connected to one another by means of holding plates arranged on the side of the gear parts. As a result, the forces perpendicular to the main axis of movement of the synchronizing device, which are caused by the contact between the teeth of the toothed racks and the pinion, cancel each other out completely in the holding plates.
In an expedient embodiment of the invention, the holding plates and the toothed racks form the counterweight of the synchronizing device.
The invention is shown in several exemplary embodiments in the drawings. 1 shows a free-piston machine with a reciprocating reciprocating piston arrangement in longitudinal section, FIG. 2 shows a section along the line AA in FIG. 1, FIG. 3 shows a second embodiment, FIG. 4 shows a variant with counterweight, FIG. 5 shows one fourth type, FIG. 6 shows a synchronizing device according to the invention in connection with a multi-cylinder machine and FIG. 7 shows a variant in which the combustion chambers are located between the synchronized pistons and a common compressor chamber is arranged at the machine end.
The mechanism of the synchronizing device --76-- shown in Fig. 1 is with the projecting end --77-- of the piston rod --74-- of the first reciprocating piston assembly --44-- of a free-piston machine --21 -- connected. The synchronizer has a double rack --78--, which is connected to the end --77-- of the piston rod --74-- by means of a fastening bolt --79--, which is through a central hole in the double rack - 78-- and is screwed into the projecting end --77-- of the piston rod --74--. A buffer element --80-- is located between the double rack --78-- and the projecting end --77--. This has several conventional springs such. B. disc springs that are arranged back to back.
The buffer element-80-allows limited movement of the double rack --78-- along the fastening bolt --79-- and with respect to the projecting end --77-- of the piston rod --74--. The purpose of this relative movement is that any impact or exceptionally strong forces acting on the synchronizing device --76-- are absorbed, such as, for example, B. can occur when starting the machine.
1 and 2 form the upper and lower side of the double toothed rack --78 -, their teeth pointing in opposite directions, i.e. radially outwards from the longitudinal axis of the fastening bolt --79 - and consequently after the piston rod --74--. The racks --82 and 83-- can be of conventional construction and their teeth can have a conventional profile. Next to the double rack --78-- are a pair of pinions --84 and 85--, the teeth of which mesh with the teeth of racks -82 and 83--.
The pinions --84 and 85-- are rotatable on bearings --86-- horizontal axes --87 and 88--.
The ends of the axes --87 and 88 - are held by a pair of parallel vertical support plates - 89 and 91-- which are attached to the housing cover --38-- of the machine.
A pair of movable holding plates --92 and 93 lie next to and parallel to the carrier plates --89 and 91-- without touching them. The holding plates --92 and 93- are connected by their uniform extension pieces -95- to the end face --94-- of the compressor piston - whereby the holding plates and the compressor piston form a movable unit.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A second pair of racks --96 and 97-- are carried by the upper and lower ends of the holding plates --92 and 93- (Fig. 1 and 2). The racks --96 and 97-- are arranged between the holding plates --92 and 93-- in such a way that their teeth mesh with the teeth of the pinions --84 and 85--. As a result, the movement of the compressor piston --52-- and accordingly the racks --96 and 97-- in one direction causes the pinions --84 and 85-- to rotate. This moves the double rack --78-- and accordingly the piston rod --74-- with the piston arrangement-44--, u. in the opposite direction.
In other words, the racks --82, 83.96 and 97-- and the pinions --84 and
85-- are arranged so that when the racks --96 and 97-- are moved in one direction, the racks --82 and 83-- are moved in the opposite direction and vice versa. The synchronization device can be relatively large, currently different
Transfer forces acting on piston assemblies --44 and 51-- from one piston assembly to the other with minimal friction loss.
This minimal friction loss at the
Synchronizing device is based on the special arrangement of its mechanics, in particular on the arrangement of the racks --82, 83.96 and 97-- and the pinion --84 and 85--, in which any sliding contact between the movable racks and the fixed carrier parts is avoided can be and accordingly the main cause of friction losses in synchronizers, as they have been used in piston machines, is eliminated. In other words, in the arrangement of the mechanics of the synchronizing device according to the invention, the normal components of the forces which are caused by the contact between the teeth of the toothed racks and the pinion completely cancel each other out.
In addition, friction losses in the mechanics of the synchronizing device are further reduced, since the double racks - and the racks --96 and 97-- align in such a way that they find a position for the pinions --84 and 85-- in which the dynamic forces, which are caused by the meshing of the teeth of the pinions and the racks --82, 83-- and also the racks --96, 97--, are lowest.
In the synchronizing device --76-- shown in FIG. 3, instead of the extension pieces --95-- of the embodiment according to FIG. 1, several relatively thin arms --120-- are provided, which hold the holding plates --92 and 93 - Connect to the front --94-- of the compressor piston --52-- of the machine --116--. These arms --120-- are spaced parallel to the longitudinal axis of the piston rod --74-- and passed through sealed openings in the pressure wall --117--, not shown in the drawings.
4 and 5 are also shown synchronizing devices --76--, their mutually corresponding organs with the counterweight assemblies --46, 128 and 46, 52-- of differently designed piston machines --123 which can be moved back and forth in opposite directions , 139--, are connected. In Fig. 4, the piston --128-- does not need to act as a piston, if desired, but can simply be designed as a counterweight and accordingly can take on various forms of construction in which, for example, the total mass of the counterweight --128-in outer racks and the holding plates themselves.
Fig. 6 shows a synchronizing device --206--, which is coupled to the piston arrangements --188, 192, 189, 193-- of a multi-cylinder engine --186--. This synchronizing device - -206--, which essentially corresponds in terms of its structure and mode of operation to the device --24 - according to FIG. 1, only has larger mechanical parts.
The double rack --78-- carries a crossbar --205-- to which the ends of the piston rods --194 and 195-- of the pistons --188 and 192-- of the machine are fastened. Extension pieces --201 and 202-- of the opposing pistons --189 and 193-- are parts of a holding plate --93--, from which the racks --96 and 97-- are supported so that the teeth of these racks fit into the teeth the sprockets --84 and 85-- engage. The teeth of the pinions --84 and 85-- also mesh with the teeth of the racks --82 and 83-- of the double racks --78--.
The synchronizing device --211-- shown in FIG. 7 is also designed for use in a multi-cylinder piston machine --207--. The double rack --78-- is attached to the piston rod --226--, which is connected to the pistons --208 and 209- via a yoke --225--. The racks --96 and 97-- of the synchronization device are
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Pistons --212 and 213-- of the machine are connected by holding plates --93-- and two extension pieces - 228 and 229-.
The double rack --78-- of the synchronization device --76-- of the machine --21-- can be replaced by a rack rod with more than two racks. Then, of course, each additional rack must be in engagement with another pinion, which again corresponds to another rack that is supported by the adjacent piston arrangement. The teeth of each rack can be directed outwards from the central longitudinal axis, so that there are equal distances for the bearing of the pinions. The advantage of using more than two racks is that the synchronizing device is then able to transmit greater forces and / or, if desired, can be carried out more cheaply, i. that is, lower quality material can be used for the synchronizer.
Furthermore, in another embodiment of the synchronizing device --76-- the double rack --78-- and the pinions --84 and 85-- can be replaced by oscillating gear parts which interact with the racks --96 and 97-- and with the piston rod --74-are connected. In the same way, the racks --96 and 97-- and the pinions in the synchronizing device --76-- can be replaced by oscillating gear parts which interact with the racks --82 and 83-- and which work with the working piston - 52-- of the piston machine are connected.
