Anteil von Ton aufweist, bedingt dies-im Hinblick darauf, dass die Schwindung während des Trocknungs- bzw. des Brennvorganges etwa 5 bis 10% des Tonanteiles beträgt - eine hohe Schwindung, wodurch gleichfalls die Masshaltigkeit der Ziegel stark beeinträchtigt wird ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.2
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The invention relates to a process for the production of ceramic bricks, in particular hollow bricks, by processing, mixing and extruding a clay and, if appropriate, containing aggregates, the consistency of which is plastic and the subsequent drying, heating, burning and cooling of the material. The invention further relates to a plant for carrying out the method according to the invention.
According to the known prior art, for the production of hollow ceramic bricks, clay in a proportion of at least about 40% to about 50% and fillers, in particular sand, in a proportion of at most about 50% to about 60% in a mixer with the addition of Water is processed into a starting material with a plastic consistency and the starting material is fed to an extrusion press. The strand emerging from the press is divided into brick blanks immediately after it exits by means of a cutting device, in particular a cutting harp. These blanks are then placed on first trolleys by means of slats, by means of which they are conveyed into a drying room in which they are dried.
After the blanks have essentially completed their shrinkage process as a result of the drying process and have thereby obtained the mechanical strength required for the subsequent manipulation, they are loaded next to one another and in layers one above the other onto second transport carriages, by means of which they are passed through a heating and firing furnace. For the time being, this is where the heating required to avoid tensions due to the subsequent firing process takes place, followed by the firing process which is carried out at a temperature of about 800 to 1100 ° C. After the workpieces have been fired, they are slowly cooled, whereupon the fired hollow bricks are removed from the second transport trolley and z. B. stacked on pallets.
This known method has several disadvantages, which are listed below:
The need to reload the dried blanks from the first transport trolley to the second transport trolley necessitates a high level of manipulation; In particular, the fact that after the blanks have dried they have to cool and when the drying chamber and the kiln, which are separated from one another, emanates from this heat, high energy losses occur; since further the strand immediately after its exit from the press
If blanks are divided, which are only subsequently dried and fired, there is a risk that the end products will not be sufficiently dimensionally stable; The manipulation of the undried or subsequently the dried brick blanks causes deformations or
Damage to the same, which means that the reject rate is relatively high; due to the usual high exit speed of the strand from the press of approx
20 cm / s, tensions and structures can arise in the blanks, which in the subsequent manufacturing process can lead to damage, in particular cracks, or breakage of the workpieces; since the loading areas of conventional burner cars have a length of z.
B. about 2, 5 m and a width of up to 6 m and they are loaded to a height of about 1, 50 m with dried brick blanks, it is due to the thus formed
Volume or the size of the blanks formed by the adjacent
Cross-sectional area compared to the cross-sectional area of a single brick is not possible to achieve uniformity in the firing process. Rather, it can be optimal
Values only for a relatively small area, i.e. H. for a small number of workpieces. On the one hand, this leads to energy losses.
On the other hand, it does not provide the required uniformity in the properties of the finished brand
Brick guaranteed; because the starting material from which conventional bricks are made is high
Proportion of clay, this means - in view of the fact that the shrinkage during the drying or firing process is about 5 to 10% of the clay proportion - a high shrinkage, which likewise severely affects the dimensional stability of the bricks;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Finally, conventional processes require a drying chamber and a separate heating or firing furnace, which means that a large one is required throughout the entire system
Investment is required.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a process for the production of ceramic bricks, in particular hollow bricks, by extrusion molding and a plant for carrying out this process, by which the disadvantages mentioned above are avoided and by which further advantageous effects are ensured . This is achieved according to the invention in that the moving strand emerging from the extrusion press in successive areas of its path, in which it may be in a manner known per se
Is divided into extrudates, the length of which preferably corresponds to a multiple of the height of a brick, is heated, dried, burned and cooled, whereupon the fired extrudate or extrudates is divided into individual bricks.
The strand is preferably subdivided into strand pieces whose length is one
Multiple times the height of a brick, after it has dried and before firing.
The subdivision of the strand into strand pieces, the length of which corresponds to a multiple of the height of a brick, can, however, immediately afterwards in a manner known per se
Exit from the press. According to a further preferred feature, the strand that emerges from the press has a cross section, the height and width of which corresponds to a multiple of the height and width of individual bricks, in particular hollow bricks. In order to then obtain ceramic hollow bricks with the sizes customary in construction after the firing process, it is therefore necessary not only in the transverse direction but also in the longitudinal direction, and the length of the strand or strand sections. to be subdivided several times in mutually perpendicular planes.
According to a further preferred feature, the material is made from a mixture of a maximum of 50% to about 20% of clay and a percentage of about 50% to about 80% of additives, such as prebaked clay, chamotte, slag, metallurgical pumice, natural pumice and the like . The like. Materials that are inert to drying and burning. In this regard, reference is made to the fact that it has so far not been considered economically feasible to add inert additives to the starting material. Rather, sand was generally used as an additive, the proportion of which was a maximum of about 40% to about 50%. The proposal to significantly reduce the proportion of clay and to use it essentially as a binder for inert additives is based on the knowledge that significant advantages can be achieved in this way.
On the one hand, the shrinkage of the strand is greatly reduced, as a result of which the disadvantages caused by the shrinkage, such as low dimensional accuracy, the occurrence of stresses and the susceptibility to breakage or crack formation due to this, are greatly reduced. On the other hand, the use of a large proportion of inert additives significantly simplifies the drying process due to the better water transport from the strand, which means that less energy is required on the one hand and on the other hand the stresses in bricks caused by the drying process or by the escape of water be greatly reduced.
Expressed in numbers, according to the known state of the art, an energy of 3690 to 3770 kJ / kg of water to be evaporated was required, whereas due to the method according to the application and the mixture of the starting material selected according to the application, a significantly reduced energy expenditure is required for drying, which corresponds to the theoretical value of 2680 kJ / kg water to be evaporated.
The waste material obtained by dividing the fired strand or the fired strand sections can also be used for the production of the starting material.
According to a further preferred method step, the strand is pressed and moved continuously, preferably at a speed of 0.3 to 5 cm / s, in particular at 1.2 cm / s. This exit speed, which is reduced to at least a quarter of the previously usual speed compared to conventional manufacturing processes, is possible because the strand is continuously processed or further processed by the subsequent drying and firing or dividing the strand. The advantage of this extremely low exit speed of the strand from the press is that it is due to this

the low flow velocity in the mouthpiece, tensions in the strand are largely avoided.

Scale.
1 contains a drying device --2--, which, for. B. is designed as a screening device, the clay material is supplied. The bulk of the sifted or dried clay is fed to a roasting device --3--, in which the material is prebaked at a temperature of 400 to 500 C, for example. The dust-like components carried along by the outgoing air from the drying device are fed to a classifier-4.
From the sinter --4-- those parts whose grain size is approximately 0.4 mm are released to the roasting machine --3--. On the other hand, those parts whose grain size is less than 0.4 mm are passed through a filter --10-- to a silo --11-- for clay material.
The material coming out of the roasting device --3-- is delivered to a silo --7-- for additives via a milling device --6-. The air coming out of the filter --10-- is passed through a heat exchanger -12--, in which it heats air which is used to feed the burners for the roasting device --3--.
From the silo --7-- containing aggregates and the silo-11- containing clay, material is fed in the desired mixing ratio via a conveyor --15-- to a mixer --16-- for the production of the starting material. By adding water and other additives, e.g. B. plasticizing, like water glass, the mixture is given a plastic consistency. The raw material is fed from the mixer --16-- to a press --18--, from the mouthpiece --19-- of which a continuous, moist strand --20-- emerges. This moist strand --20-- is transported by means of a transport device -22--, e.g. B.
Conveyor rollers, passed through a tunnel --23--. This tunnel --23-- is divided into successive sections A, B and C, in which drying or heating, burning and cooling of the strand takes place. The combustion zone B is formed with gas jet walls. After the fired strand --21-- emerges, --25 sections are separated from it by means of a cutting device, which are then cut transversely to the longitudinal direction of the fired strand --21- and in the longitudinal direction of the fired strand --21--, u. can be subdivided into normal-sized hollow bricks in vertical planes.
At the free end of the fired strand --21-- an end plate --36-- formed with nozzles can be attached, which is connected via a line --37-- to a compressed air source --38--. The compressed air source --38 - is carried by a carriage --40-- which can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the strand --20, 21--. Nozzles protrude from the end plate --36-- into the longitudinal channels of the fired strand --21-.
The cores of the mouthpiece --19-- are formed with channels which open on the side facing the moist strand --20-- in the longitudinal channels of the moist strand --20-- and the other ends of which lead to an air duct --27- - are connected. To enable control of the air flow through the individual longitudinal ducts of the line --20, 21--,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the channels of the cores open into separate lines, the air flows z. B. individually controlled by valves such as flaps. All of these lines can be routed to a single suction device --29--.
This air duct --27--, like a connection piece --28--, through which air can be drawn out of the tunnel --23--, is led to a condenser --30--. The condensation water released by the condenser --30-- is released to the mixer --16-- via a line --31--.
Aggregates that contain lime, pyrite, dolomite or similar materials that undergo physical or chemical changes that are harmful to the end product due to the fire must have a grain size that is less than 0.4 mm, since they are harmful above this grain size Cause influences.
This system works as follows:
The drying device --2-- is used to dry and shred materials that are to be used as aggregates. These materials are pre-fired or calcined in the roaster --3--. This is followed in the mill --6-- by grinding these materials to a grain size of approximately 0.4 mm. The material released by a mill --6-- is stored in the silo --7--. From the drying device --2-- ab-

of the filter --10-- is led to the silo --11-- for storing the sound material.
The mixer --16-- is fed with additives from the silo --7-- in a proportion of approximately 50% to approximately 80% and from the silo --11-- clay in a proportion of approximately 50% to approximately 20% . The material supplied from the silo --7-- represents the aggregate, whereas the non-prebaked clay from the silo --11-- represents the binder for the production of the bricks. In the mixer --16-- there is an intensive mixing of the clay with the additives, with the addition of the required amount of water, which is pre-heated from the condenser --30-- and fed into the mixer --16--.
By means of the press --18--, the warm, moist strand --20-- is pressed through the mouthpiece --19-- at a speed of 0.3 to 5 cm, in particular 1.2 cm / s, which immediately enters the tunnel --23-- after leaving the mouthpiece --19--.
Zone A of the tunnel --23-- dries and heats the strand --20--.
In zone B, the strand is fired, which is carried out at a temperature of about 800 to 1100 C, preferably 900 to 1050 C. Then the burned strand --21-- is cooled in zone C. After the fired strand --21-emerges from the tunnel --23--, it is cut into bricks of usual size by the cutting device --25--.
Air is passed through the tunnel --23-- against the conveying direction of the strand --20, 21--, which flows along the surface of the strand and which is fed through the connection piece --28-- to the condenser --30-- becomes. Furthermore, air is introduced through the compressed air source --38--, the line --37-- and the end plate --36-- into the longitudinal channels of the line --21, 20 air, which flows through these longitudinal channels and through the channels of the cores of the mouthpiece-19-- and via the line --27-- also to the condenser --30--.
The compressed air source --38-- located on the carriage --40-- follows the movement of the

zone A very intensive drying of the strand --20-- both from its outer surface and from its inner surfaces. This ensures a high level of uniformity and a high level of effectiveness in drying. The hot water separated from the drying air by the condenser --30-- is fed to the mixer --16-- via line --31--.
Due to the extremely low speed at which the strand --20-- is passed through the mouthpiece, tensions are largely avoided. Since the starting material has a relatively low proportion of clay and a relatively high proportion of additives, there is only a relatively small shrinkage of the strand, which means that the end products can be dimensionally very stable. The fact that from the extrusion press --18--
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
emerging strand --20-- is not subdivided and that it is not subjected to any other manipulation, any damage to the strand --20-- is avoided, which greatly reduces the reject rate compared to conventional processes.
Since further the
Strand is dried, heated and burned in one pass, energy losses due to cooling after the drying process are avoided. Since the fired ceramic strand is divided by means of cutting devices, a high dimensional accuracy of the end products is also ensured. Finally, since the starting material has a very high proportion of fillers, the exit of the water from the strand in the drying zone A is considerably facilitated or the drying process is significantly promoted, as a result of which the energy required for drying is close to the theoretical value for this or the development of tensions which increase the susceptibility to breakage is greatly reduced.
In addition, reference is made to the fact that in the exemplary embodiment shown and described, pre-fired clay is used as the additional material. Instead of this material, other additives that are inert to drying and firing, such as waste from the metallurgical industry, e.g. B. chamotte, slag, pumice, natural pumice and. Like., Are used. The dust generated by dividing the fired ceramic strand can also be used as an additive and thus recycled. The separation of the burned strand-21-in strand pieces can be in lengths of z. B. 10 m, which are then divided into individual bricks. Due to the hardness of the material, z. B. diamond discs required.
FIG. 2 of the drawings shows part of the system according to FIG. 1 insofar as it contains changes. In this modified embodiment of a system according to the invention, a further cutting device is arranged in the tunnel at the end of the drying area A or after the exit of a separate drying chamber 23a, which is connected upstream of a firing tunnel. Furthermore, the carriage 40-- for the compressed air source --38--, which can be moved in the direction of the strand, is assigned to the exit of the drying chamber --23a--. The end plate --36-- is attached to the interface of the dried but not yet fired strand --20--.
According to this method, the strand is divided into sections after its exit from the drying chamber --23a--, the length of which corresponds to a multiple or a multiple of the height of a brick. The air is guided along the surface of the strand and through the longitudinal channels of the moist strand --20-- moving through the drying chamber --23a--, whereby it is dried from the outside and from the inside. The compressed air source --38-- also follows the movement of the face of the moist layer - -20--. The compressed air source --38-- can be supplied in particular via a line --39-by air from the kiln or by warm air from the condenser --30--.
The further processing of the sections of the strand --20-- which has been dried in this way is carried out in such a way that the strand sections are then heated and fired in a downstream kiln, then cooled and finally divided into individual bricks.
FIG. 3 of the drawings again shows part of a system according to FIG. 1, insofar as changes are concerned. In this embodiment, the further cutting device --25a-- is located at the exit of the strand from the mouthpiece --19-- of the press --18-- and -there the strand is divided into sections, the length of which is a multiple or one
EMI5.1
Sections are guided from the outside along this warm air and, for drying, are also applied from the inside to the two cut surfaces of the end plates --36, 36a--. The end plate --36-- is connected via a line --37-- to a compressed air source --38-- carried by a carriage --40a--.
The end plate --36a-- is led to the condenser --30-- via a line --37a--, whereby the condensed water is fed via line --31-- to the mixer --16-- and the warm one Air is returned to the compressed air source --38--.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
After the strand sections --20a-- have been dried, they are fired and cooled, after which they are divided into individual bricks.
As can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawings, the nozzle mouthpiece - 19-- contains a plurality of cores --45-- which are formed with channels --46--. Cores --45-- lying horizontally next to one another are supported by webs --48-- which are formed with channels --49--. Air flowing through the channels of the line can thus flow into the channels --46-- of the cores - and flow out via the channels --49-- of the webs --48-- as well as via connecting pieces.
In order to enable control of the air flowing through the individual channels of the strand, as is shown in FIG. 6 of the drawings, it is inside the webs --48-- each channel --46-- of the cores --45-- assigned a throttle, which can be formed by an annular hose - 54 - held in a frame. A probe can be inserted through the connecting pieces --50--, the channels --49-- and the channels --46-- into each of the longitudinal channels of the line, through which the moisture and / or the temperature of the through the individual longitudinal channels of the strand of air flowing through it is measured.
Depending on these measured values, the hoses --54-- are inflated to a greater or lesser extent, as shown in full lines or in dashed lines in the drawings, as a result of which it is possible to control the air quantities passing through the individual longitudinal channels of the line. This enables uniform drying over the entire cross-section of the strand, which is of crucial importance for the quality of the end product. In order to make the valves formed by the hoses accessible, the webs --48-- are divided.
In addition, it is noted that any burners, such as oil burners or gas burners, can be provided in the combustion zone B of the tunnel --23. In addition, reference is made to the fact that the connecting webs --48-- for the cores --45-- can also run vertically.
