<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a method for precooling a system for preparing cool air, in which the air is supplied under pressure to an air passage and in this case passes through a dehumidifier, a dryer and a heat exchanger, and in order to cool the compressed air and to obtain low-temperature air , a liquefied refrigerant gas is fed to a gas passage that passes through the heat exchanger to the dehumidifier.
Recently, cold gas, in particular cryogenic gas, with temperatures below -100 ° C. has been used for cooling work surfaces of cutting cutting tools during the cutting of metal, or for cooling diseased parts of the body of rheumatics in cryogenic exercises in medical treatment. Such a cryogenic gas can easily be obtained using cryogenic, liquefied gas such as liquid nitrogen, but it is unhealthy to admit this gas directly into a work space.
For this reason, a method is generally used in which atmospheric air is cooled by means of a liquefied cryogenic gas such as liquid nitrogen or the like, and the air is conducted at a certain low temperature to where the freezing treatment is carried out.
In known systems and methods for the preparation of cool air, air of normal temperature is fed directly into the dryer during the pre-cooling of the system and therefore the moisture in the air cannot be removed sufficiently, so that these known systems have disadvantages such as condensation of water in the heat exchanger .
It is therefore an object of the invention to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned above in the pre-cooling of plants for the preparation of cool air. It is a further object of the invention to provide a method for the pre-cooling of plants for the preparation of cool air, by means of which a quick and smooth pre-cooling of a dryer can be achieved.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a method for pre-cooling systems for the preparation of cool air, in which the system can be quickly and efficiently cooled to the temperatures necessary for the normal operation for cooling air.
It is another object of the invention to provide a method of precooling cool air preparation plants which improves the water absorption capacity of the dryer, thereby increasing the maximum amount of air that can be processed during normal operation.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a method for precooling systems for preparing cool air, the method advantageously being carried out in the area of the system by supplying the air under low pressure and the dehumidification effect in the dehumidifier being low. Another object of the invention is to provide a method for pre-cooling systems for preparing cool air, by means of which the energy costs of the system can be reduced.
The object according to the invention is achieved in that the supply of compressed air is stopped, the liquefied refrigerant gas is let into the gas passage, so that the gas passes through the heat exchanger and then the dehumidifier, and then the gas released by the dehumidifier is let into the air passage, the gas flowing through the dehumidifier, the dryer and the heat exchanger in succession.
The drawing shows a flow diagram of an embodiment of the invention.
With reference to the drawing, in a known method, air is drawn in from an air supply device --1--, such as a blower, compressor or the like, and into one via a valve --2-- and a line --3-- Dehumidifier --4--, which has cooled to a temperature close to 0 C, for example +1 C, at which moisture in the sucked-in air cannot freeze.
The moisture in the air is condensed in the dehumidifier --4-- and discharged via a line-5-- and a valve-6--. The dehumidified air is fed into a heater which is in operation when the regeneration is carried out and then flows via a line --9-- into a dryer-10- which contains a drying agent such as aluminum gel, silicon gel or the like. contains. The majority of the water in the air is removed in the dryer --10-- and the dried air is then fed via lines --11 and 12 - to a heat exchanger --13--, to which a liquefied cryogenic gas such as liquid nitrogen
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
substance (boiling point-196 C), is supplied.
In the heat exchanger --13-- the introduced air exchanges heat with the liquefied freezing gas and is cooled to a predetermined low temperature and then flows via a line --14-- and a valve --15-- to the desired outlet point. In this way, the lines - 3, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 14 - form an air passage. The reference numerals --16 and 17-- denote thermometers which are arranged in the air passage near the outlet of the dehumidifier --4-- and the outlet of the heat exchanger --13--.
On the other hand, the freezing agent for cooling the air, for example liquefied freezing gas, such as liquid nitrogen, is fed from a reservoir (not shown) via lines --18, 19--, valves --20-- and lines --21-- into the heat exchanger - 13-- led. The amount of freezing agent supply is controlled by the valve --20--, depending on the information given by the thermometer --17--, which is the value of the air coming in via the line --14-- and the valve --15-- is supplied to the delivery point, so that the temperature is kept in a predetermined temperature range.
After the liquid nitrogen has cooled and evaporated the air in the heat exchanger --13--, it exits via a line --22-- and is then passed through a line --23-- to the dehumidifier --4-- fed for cooling. The nitrogen gas is then released into the atmosphere via a line --24-- and a valve --25--.
In this way, lines --19, 21, 22, 23 and 24-- form a gas passage. It is necessary to keep the temperature in the --4-- dehumidifier at around + IIC, as previously mentioned. If the passage of nitrogen gas through lines --22 and 23-- becomes too great and there is a tendency to cool the dehumidifier --4-- to a temperature below +10, excess nitrogen gas can be opened by opening a valve --27- - are released into the atmosphere via a branch line --26-- and a manifold --35--.
On the other hand, if the flow of nitrogen gas through the line --23-- is too low and the temperature in the dehumidifier --4-has a tendency to rise above +1 C, then nitrogen gas is released from the --29- by opening a valve Line --28--, which is connected to the reservoir, not shown, via bypass lines which consist of lines --28, 30-- and line --22--.
In this way, the temperature in the dehumidifier --4-- is regulated by opening or closing the valves - 27 and 29 - according to the specifications of the thermometer --16--. That prepared
EMI2.1
--15-- can be obtained from line --14--.
During cooling of the air, the dryer absorbs --10-- water vapor from the air and further water in the air is condensed and frozen in the air passages inside the heat exchanger --13--. A regeneration treatment is therefore necessary to remove ice collected in the water and dryer --10-- and in the heat exchanger --13-- after a certain period of operation of the system.
During the regeneration, the supply of liquid nitrogen is stopped by closing the valves --29 and 20-- and the air, which is conveyed by the blower-l-through the air outlet, is heated by the heater --8-- and then the dryer --10-- fed. The air then flows out of line --11-- and part of it is released into the atmosphere via line --31-- and valve --32--. The remaining air is introduced through the line --12-into the air passage of the heat exchanger --13--, where it heats the air passage and melts ice formed therein. The resulting water is carried out of the air and released into the atmosphere via lines --14 and 33--, a valve --34-- and line --35--.
After the above heat regeneration has ended, the system can be put back into operation. When preparing extremely cool air, however, it is necessary to pre-cool the system over a certain period of time. For this purpose, liquid nitrogen is passed through the gas passage, which flows through the heat exchanger --13-- the dehumidifier --4--, the air which flows through the supply device -l- and which flows through the air passage is cooled and by opening the Valve --34-- released into the atmosphere.
After checking with the thermometer that the temperature of the air passing through the valve --34-- has cooled to the specified level, i.e. H. that the pre-cooling has been carried out sufficiently long, the delivery of cooled air is resumed by closing the valve --34-- and opening the valve --15--.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The invention will now be described with reference to the drawing. After the blower or compressor has been switched off, liquid nitrogen is released by opening the valve --20-- via the line. --21-- admitted into the heat exchanger --13--, where it evaporates to a low-temperature nitrogen gas, which via lines --22 and 23-- to the dehumidifier --4-to cool the dehumidifier --4-- to be led. Then the nitrogen gas that was released from the dehumidifier --4-- via line --24-- is not released into the atmosphere via valve --25--, but is led into a branch line --101-- and then through a valve --102--, which is only open during this pre-cooling, into line --3--, which forms part of the air passage.
Then the nitrogen gas flows through the air passage, which passes through the dehumidifier --4--, the dryer --10--, the heat exchanger --13--, and is then removed from the line by opening the valve --34-- --14-- released into the atmosphere via branch lines --33 and 35--. This operation continues until the temperature in the dehumidifier-4-has dropped to +1 C. The nitrogen gas which is introduced into the air outlet via line --101-- is the vaporized liquid nitrogen and contains little moisture, since its dew point is not higher than -70 C (water content 2.5 ppm). In this way, pre-cooling takes place smoothly with little load on the dryer --10 - and has no disadvantages, such as the condensation of water in the heat exchanger-13--.
Furthermore
EMI3.1
released into the atmosphere, in which case the pre-cooling of the dryer can be accelerated --10--.
As can be seen from the preceding description, according to the invention the disadvantage of the systems of the known prior art, namely that water in the heat exchanger condenses during the pre-cooling, can be eliminated and the dryer can be precooled smoothly. The system can be quickly and efficiently cooled to the necessary working temperatures using the method of the invention. It is particularly advantageous to apply the invention to cooling systems in which the air supply device has a low air pressure of only a few tens of millimeters of water, such as when a blower is used and the dehumidification effect in the dehumidifier is therefore low. The invention can further save energy costs since the air supply device is switched off during the pre-cooling of the system.
