Nach einigen Tagen der Bestrahlung unter gleichzeitigem Auspumpen der auftretenden Gase erweist sich die Oberfläche des Urans als in Uran X übergeführt. Bei erneuter längerer Bestrahlung erfolgt eine weitere Umwandlung des Uran X zunächst in radioinaktive und schliesslich wieder in neue radioaktive Körper. Hierbei kann zweckmässig die Wirkung der Kathodenstrahlen durch über der Antikathode angebrachte radioaktive Korper verstärkt und somit eine schnelle Umwandlung erzielt werden.
Entsprechend dem Uran oder den Uranverbindungen verhalten sich das Thorium und die Thoriumverbindungen. Auch bei diesen erhält man bei Bestrahlung Gasentwicklung, wobei das Thorium resp. die Thoriumverhindung sich in eine radioaktive Substanz umwandelt, welche sich bei längerer Bestrahlung wieder in radioaktive Substanzen mit anderen Eigenschaften umwandelt.
Das Uran X bezw. die anderen nach dem vorliegenden Verfahren erhiiltlichr. n radio- aktiven Körper sollen zu Heilzwecken und zu Reaktionen Verwendung finden, zu denen jetzt die teuren, natürlich gewonnenen Radiumpräparate benutzt werden.
