The invention relates to a device for supplying fuel vapor to a carburetor of an internal combustion engine, a perforated outflow part for the air supply being arranged in a partially filled fuel tank under the fuel level, which is connected to the pressure side of a compressor and a connecting line above the fuel level - Device for transferring the fuel vapor to the carburetor is provided, which is connected to a chamber provided above the fuel level.
From US-PS No. 2, 742, 886 a device of the type mentioned is known, which one
Has fuel tank, which is penetrated by an air supply line in the vertical direction. A compressor driven by the internal combustion engine delivers compressed air drawn in via an air filter into the air supply line and from there via the perforated base of the fuel tank into the interior of the same. The one rising above the fuel level in the tank
Fuel vapor enters the upper part of the container via a droplet or splash barrier and is fed from there to the carburetor of the internal combustion engine.
This well-known facility has. the disadvantage that the pressure of the fuel vapor in the system is not retained when the internal combustion engine is at a standstill and thus also the compressor is at a standstill, which leads to difficulties with the fuel supply particularly when starting the internal combustion engine and thus makes it necessary to arrange a separate fuel supply for the starting process .
The object of the invention is to improve a device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that the carburetor of the internal combustion engine is adequately supplied with fuel vapor even during the starting process of the internal combustion engine. This is achieved according to the invention in that the chamber is connected to the rest of the space above the fuel level in the fuel tank via a check valve, that a shut-off and regulating valve is switched on in the connecting line, which is preferably electrically controllable and the connecting line when the line is stopped Shuts off the internal combustion engine and that a check valve is also switched on between the compressor and the perforated outflow part in a manner known per se.
Due to the check valve between the chamber and the rest of the space above the fuel level and the connection line to the carburetor of the internal combustion engine that is closed when the internal combustion engine is at a standstill, the chamber above the fuel level represents a storage container for pressurized steam, from which fuel vapor evaporates almost immediately when the internal combustion engine is started Carburetor can be fed. The electrical control of the shut-off and control valve in the connecting line to the carburetor can, for. B. be operated by the accelerator pedal of the internal combustion engine.
Furthermore, a check valve is also connected in the connecting line between the pressure side of the compressor and the perforated outflow part, which also prevents the pressure drop in the fuel tank outside the chamber connected to the carburetor of the internal combustion engine when the internal combustion engine is switched off.
It is therefore possible with this device that the pressure built up in the fuel tank and in the connecting line to the carburetor is retained even after the internal combustion engine has been switched off, as a result of which fuel vapor is immediately available at the carburetor when it is restarted. The arrangement of additional devices which are used to supply fuel to the carburetor during the starting process can thus advantageously be dispensed with.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiment shown schematically in the drawing.
The internal combustion engine-l-has an output shaft --2--, which has a coupling at one end --3-- for the connection of units to be driven, not shown, and a flange coupling --4-- at the other end for connecting the Drive shaft --5-- of a compressor --6--. The compressor --6-- has an intake manifold --7--, which in a manner not shown for. B. is connected to an air filter, and a connecting piece --8--, to which a pressure line --9- is connected.
The pressure line --9--, which is connected at its other end to the fuel tank --10--, has a check valve --11-, which in the example shown is designed as a spring-loaded ball valve.
The fuel tank --10-- is filled with liquid fuel --11 '-, which over the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
EMI2.1
air can enter the inside of the fuel tank --10--.
The space --16-- above the fuel level --13-- is by means of another check valve --17--, which e.g. B. is also designed as a spring-loaded ball valve, connected to a chamber --18--.
A connecting line --19 - leads from the chamber --18-- of the fuel tank --10-- to the carburetor --20--. A shut-off and control valve --21 is switched on in the connecting line --19--, which is controlled via an electrical valve actuation --22--. The electrical signals supplied via the control line --23-- to the valve actuation --22-- are shown in a manner not shown, e.g. B. generated via a device on the accelerator pedal of the internal combustion engine.
The carburetor --20-- usually has an air connection --24--, through which fresh air is sucked in from the air filter of the internal combustion engine in a manner not shown, and is adjusted via an operating linkage --25-- depending on the desired operating state of the internal combustion engine . For the supply of the fuel-air mixture from the carburetor --20-- to the internal combustion engine-l-a connection line --26-- is provided, which is attached to the inlet flange --27-- of the internal combustion engine. Furthermore, a piece of the exhaust pipe --28-- can be seen, which leads to the silencer and exhaust pipe in a manner not shown.
The mode of operation of the device according to the invention shown is as follows:
With the internal combustion engine-l-and the compressor driven --6-- running, air is discharged via the pressure line --9-- and the check valve is open when a certain pressure is reached
EMI2.2
Distribution as gas is carried over the mirror --13-- of the fuel and, due to the resulting overpressure in the room --16-- opening check valve --17-- get into the chamber --18--.
Fuel vapor is only withdrawn from the chamber --18 - which represents a storage space when the shutoff and control valve --21-- in the connecting line --19-- is opened by the electrically controlled actuating device --22--. This is done either by actuating the accelerator pedal of the internal combustion engine or by another corresponding device. The fuel vapor then flows via the connecting line --19-- to the carburetor --20-- and is mixed here with air in the usual way and drawn in by the internal combustion engine via line --26--.
When the internal combustion engine-l-is at a standstill, the compressor --6-- no longer generates pressure in the pressure line --9--, which leads to the closing of the two check valves -11 and 17--. Since the valve --21-- in the connecting line --19-- is also closed when the internal combustion engine is at a standstill, the chamber --18-- in the fuel tank --10-- in particular is hermetically sealed, which reduces the pressure in the - -18-- prevents fuel vapor. As a result, when the internal combustion engine is restarted, i.e. when the valve --21-- in the connecting line --19-- is opened, fuel vapor is immediately available again for the supply to the carburetor --20-- and thus to the internal combustion engine-l-what enables the starting process without additional fuel supply.
Even after a long interruption in operation, when some of the vaporous fuel particles in the chamber --18-- of the fuel tank --10-- have already condensed, when the engine is started, the air delivered by the compressor --6-- into the fuel tank Fuel vapor is formed again very quickly in the chamber --18--, especially since the fuel tank is still under pressure before starting and the vapor formation is almost independent of the exact level of the fuel in the fuel tank.
