Verschlussklammer
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

sonst leicht spitze Winkel--15--bilden.

Locking clip
The invention relates to a closure clip for closing packaging made of flexible material, such as. B. Sausage casings and bags made of plastic films for packaging food. Closure elements intended for this purpose generally consist of U-shaped brackets with a round, square or even rectangular or band-like cross section. The pre-twisted or gathered ends of the packaging are gripped by the clamp.
The two open legs of the U-profile are then bent inwards, the end of the packaging being firmly enclosed. In addition, however, the closure element has the task of withstanding the static restoring force of the closed end so that the closure is prevented from opening automatically. Finally, a liquid-tight or even airtight seal is sometimes required.
Practice has now shown that the known locking clips are sometimes not up to the aforementioned tasks; especially not when external forces are added to the internal restoring force of the locking point. The latter is z. B. the case when transporting packaging when shaking movements occur. If, for example, the packs closed with clamps are sausages hung on string, there is also the risk that the dynamic forces generated by its own weight will strip the clamp from the closure point.
In order to counter these dangers, the invention proposes to design the locking clip mentioned at the beginning so that the legs of the clip have an oval, preferably elliptical or rhombic cross-sectional profile, the major axis of the respective cross-sectional profile lying in the main plane of the clip. This solution has several advantages. Either with the same volume of material, for example compared to a round cross-section, the section modulus is increased considerably, or with the same stability, as in the case of brackets with a round cross-section, material is saved, and the like. between 15 and 20%. In addition, the closure clamps according to the invention are narrower, so that a correspondingly larger number of them can be accommodated in a magazine.
Another advantage due to the narrowness of the clip according to the invention consists in its small contact surface at the locking point, which increases the specific locking pressure. This results in a tighter closure without damaging the material of the packaging at the closure point. Finally, the oval cross-section according to the invention has the advantage that it does not grow beyond its width in the event of sharp bends in the compressed pressure zone. As a result, the clamps according to the invention for the magazine can be lined up to form a straight bar.
For the closure clip according to the invention with an oval cross-section, the strictly elliptical one is the ideal cross-section. However, a rhombic cross section with rounded corners can also be used
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
will. This cross-section has the advantage that it has flat areas on part of its circumference which are well suited for guiding the clamps.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the closure clip can also have a teardrop-shaped cross-sectional profile, the thicker part of the teardrop shape facing outwards and the tapering part facing inwards. With this cross-sectional profile, when the clip is manufactured, a thickening occurs on the inside in the bending radius that is larger than the profile, while on the outside, in the stretching zone where the greater stress lies, the thicker cross-section is present.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the two leg ends of the closure clip are beveled at the outer edges. This has the additional advantage that the legs slide better when they are placed on the die and during the subsequent closing process, which ensures a softer rolling on. This reduces the specific load when the front edges of the clamp are placed on the die and thus avoids a squishy edge, which can be injurious due to the formation of burrs on the packaged goods. The bevel of the leg edges can be formed during manufacture by upsetting, as a result of which the leg ends are hardened. This leads to a further facilitation of sliding when rolling the legs in the die. In addition, material is obtained through the upsetting process, which results in further material savings.
By improving the ability to slide during the closing, the closed clip has larger bending radii, while if the sliding action in the die is poor, there are usually no radii at the kinks, but rather acute angles in which the closed packaging material can be squeezed off. As a result, a material with high strength can be selected, which has a higher section modulus and has lower manufacturing costs.
The subject matter of the invention is illustrated in the figures. Fig. 1 shows a cross section, Fig. 2 shows the associated side view of a clip according to the invention with beveled corners; FIG. 3 shows a clip with a rhombic cross section, FIG. 4 shows a clip with a teardrop-shaped cross section. FIG. 5 shows a closed clamp in which the outer edges of the leg ends are beveled by upsetting, FIG. 6 shows a closed clamp in which this is not the case.
According to the invention, the clip -1- according to FIG. 1 has an oval cross-sectional profile 2-. It is part of the invention that the major axis-3-of the cross-sectional profile-2-lies in the main plane - -4-- of the bracket --1--. A major advantage of the invention is that the clip --1-- when bending its legs --5-- at the bending points --6-- does not extend beyond the outer dimension in the area of the minor axis --7-- of the oval Cross-sectional profiles-2-widened. This ensures that the staples - 1 - can fit each other closely in the magazine without having to maintain an inevitable distance from each other at the bending points --6-- due to bulges in the material.
The latter is particularly the case with brackets with a rectangular cross-section. Due to the oval cross-sectional profile --2-- according to the invention, the material bulges remain here at the bending points - 6 - within the outer lines --8-- of the brackets - -1--.
The clips according to the invention - 9 and 16 - shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 have the same advantages. The cross-sectional profile --10-- of the bracket --9-- is a rhombus with rounded corners. As a result, the cross-sectional profile --10-- has four straight, flat areas -11-- seen in the longitudinal direction of the bracket - 9 -. The areas-11-offer the particular advantage of good staple guidance from the magazine to the locking point. The clip -16- of Fig. 4 has a teardrop-shaped cross-sectional profile -17-, the thick part of the teardrop shape facing outwards and the tapering part facing inwards.
The leg ends of the clamps have bevels --12 - on their outer edges, which are expediently formed by upsetting during manufacture. Without the bevel --12--, the closed bracket usually has a ridge --13-- which is omitted with the bevel, as Fig. 5 shows. Due to the compression, a material of higher strength can be used,

otherwise form slightly acute angles - 15 -.
