<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ausserdem

Valve for the optional connection of an outlet from a part to be actuated to the atmosphere or to a supply opening depending on the temperature change of a temperature-responsive one
Element
The invention relates to a valve for the optional connection of an outlet from a part to be operated to the atmosphere or to a supply opening depending on the temperature change of a temperature-responsive element, which a control valve via a
Push pin actuated and in which a valve rod interacts with a spherical closing element.
It is known to provide temperature-controlled valves which respond to temperature changes, for example in the water jacket of the engines of vehicles, especially for controlling the opening and closing movement of blinds for the automobile radiators. These pressure-responsive valves function to disconnect the blind actuating mechanism from the pressure source and vent the operating mechanism to atmosphere or, conversely, connect the pressure source to the actuating mechanism. The valves previously known for this or a similar purpose consisted essentially of a ball valve which opens or closes the outlet by means of a single seat.
The object of the invention is to create a valve of the type mentioned at the beginning so simply and economically that no high levels of accuracy have to be maintained in the design of the individual parts and, nevertheless, perfect functioning at precisely predetermined temperatures is guaranteed. The valve should be designed so that screw machine parts can be used using extruded materials and standard rod material. In addition, the valve should quickly come into action at a precisely predetermined temperature in order to first turn off a supply pressure from a supply line and then open the outlet to the atmosphere, u. zw. Regardless of whether the supply pressure is below or above normal pressure.
In addition, the valve should be designed in such a way that the individual valve parts are protected from dust.
For this purpose, the valve according to the invention is characterized by a housing with a recess for receiving a filter, a valve chamber formed in this housing between the recess for the filter and the outer end with a valve rod passage which runs from this filter chamber to the recess for the filter, a valve body arranged in the outer end of the valve chamber with an outward-facing valve seat, a fitting piece screwed to the inner end of the housing, which also has an axial bore for receiving the filter, the temperature-sensitive element being axially adjustable with the push pin, one from the push pin actuated valve rod running through the valve rod bore, at the outer end of which an axial bore is provided with a second valve seat pointing outwards,
a radial bore in the valve rod between the axial bore in the valve rod and the recess for receiving the relatively rigid, cylindrical filter which surrounds the valve rod radially at a lateral distance, a compression spring which is arranged between the end of the filter and a pressure ring resting on the valve rod , u.
between moving the valve rod inwards
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
with respect to the housing and around the filter with respect to the housing outwards against the outer end of the filter, a valve ball which closes the valve seat and is opposite the other valve seat, a vent cap releasably attached to the outer end of the housing, which axially over the Housing protrudes, a second compression spring acting on the outer side of the valve ball, which is arranged between the vent cap and a pressure plate, a second annular seal, which lies between the outside of the filter and a counter bearing inside the recess, the valve rod having a radial bore ,
which is connected to the valve chamber via a subsequent axial bore and the space between the exterior of the filter and the recess above the first seal is connected to a supply opening.
It can be of advantage that a second filter is arranged between the ventilation cap and the outer end of the housing, which is located around the valve ball. This second filter can have a cup-shaped design which supports the second compression spring with respect to the valve ball.
Another feature of the invention is seen in the fact that the valve rod is tubular and is guided in a valve body made of harder material than that of the valve rod, u. between the recess for the filter and the outer area of the housing, the valve chamber, the valve rod passage and the channel for the pressure medium lines being arranged in this valve body. Furthermore, it is possible that an annular guide part arranged at the outer end of the recess for the filter is provided for assembly with an inner cone for guiding the valve rod and an outer cone for guiding the outer end of the cylindrical filter.
It is also advantageous that the first seal is a circular, deformable ring that lies in the valve body around the valve rod passage. Furthermore, it is possible that the fitting piece rests against an inwardly inclining neck of the housing and that an inner pressure ring located within the fitting piece serves as a pressure bearing for the compression spring. Furthermore, a deformable, circular seal can be located between the opposing surfaces of the housing and the fitting.
It is also possible for the fitting piece made of hexagonal material to be provided with an internal thread recess for receiving an outer screw neck at the inner end of the housing, the outer end of the fitting piece resting against the housing. There can also be a central recess at the outer end of the housing and the second, cup-shaped filter can be at least partially within this central recess. The housing can be produced in an extrusion process and the valve body can constitute a one-piece, central section of the housing. Moreover

Further features and advantages of the invention emerge from the following description with reference to the drawings, which show two examples of the valve construction according to the invention. 1 shows a longitudinal cross-section through a preferred embodiment of the valve construction according to the invention along line 1-1 of FIG. 2, FIG. 2 shows an outer end view of the valve construction shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 shows a partial longitudinal section through a modified embodiment of the Valve.
The housing of the valve according to the invention is generally denoted by -l and has

Edge. The housing is expediently continuously produced from aluminum using the extrusion process. At the inner or left end of the housing, as shown in Fig. 1, this is turned off so that a neck

An enlarged recess --22-- at the inner end of the valve rod passage - 19 - accommodates an elastic ring --23-- as a seal,

Valve rod-21-and passage-opening-26-is connected with internal thread and has a disc -27- made of porous filter material, which is pressed into its inner end.
On the opposite side of the housing --1-- and axially inwardly displaced with respect to the passage opening --26-- there is a supply opening 28 with an internal thread, which opens into the recess 10 of the housing. In the recess --10-- there is a cylindrical filter --29-- made of porous ceramic material, which is at a distance from the wall of the recess - 10 -, in which the filter --29-- is deformable by a ring Seal --30-- is centered, which rests on the shoulder --9--, and by a double conical ring guide part --31-- made of plastic material, which is against the shoulder - 13 - and the inner end of the valve body --15-- is present.
The filter --29-- is guided during assembly through the inwardly tapering outer cone of the ring guide part - 31--. The reduced inner end of the valve rod --21-- is guided during assembly by the inwardly converging inner cone of the ring guide part --31--.
At the outer or right-hand end of the housing, the central recess --7 - is provided with an inwardly pointing, cylindrical, cup-shaped filter --32-- made of porous ceramic material, which has a flange at its inner end which is attached to the inner wall the recess --7-- seals against a seal --33--. The cup-shaped filter --32-- is fixed by a ventilation cap --34-- with a cylindrical section --35-- by surrounding the sides of the filter --32-- at a lateral distance and an annular flange --36 - is attached to the outer end of the housing-1-by means of screws-37.
The outer end of this vent cap --34-- has an inwardly running projection - 38--, which presses the cup-shaped filter --32-- into position and is also provided with ventilation holes --39--, which form the central recess --7-- vented to atmosphere. Inside the cup-shaped filter -32- there is a compression spring -40-, which is seated between the bottom of the cup-shaped filter -32- and a pressure plate -41- with a central bore -42 that covers the surface of the valve ball -18- -touched to keep it in the valve seat --17--.
The valve construction described so far is by means of a fitting piece - 43 -, which is expediently manufactured as a screw machine part from hexagonal material, in the wall of a liquid chamber such. B. attached to the cylinder block of an engine. The fitting piece -43- has an internal thread at its outer end, which is screwed to the external thread --5-- of the neck --4-- and runs against the shoulder --6--. A deformable, circular seal - seals the fitting piece -43- with the housing --1-- so that there is no pressure loss along the screw connection between the fitting piece-43- and the housing --1--.
Inside or to the left of the hexagonal part of the fitting piece -43-this is provided with a tapering screw neck -45-which fits into a suitable threaded hole in the cylinder block or the cooling chamber. Inside the fitting piece -43-there is a conical recess --46-- which opens into the recess --8-- in the housing --1-- and accommodates a conical compression spring - which is placed between a pressure ring --48- - at the inner end of the filter -29 and a pressure ring -49- which is fitted in a circular groove in the valve rod -21- and rests against the inner end of the conical recess -46- to prevent the inward movement of the

This element -53- is a well-known, commercially available item that contains a heat-expandable semi-solid material that pushes a push pin -54- from element -53- when the temperature in element -53- is increased. The push pin - 54 - touches the inner end of the valve rod --21 --- and pushes it outwards against the force of the compression spring --47-- when the temperature of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Elementes-53-is increased. A lock nut --55-- on the thread attachment --52-- fixes the temperature-sensitive element --53-- and its push pin --54-- in the desired, calibrated position by jamming it against the inner end of the fitting piece -43-.
The tip --20-- of the valve rod --21-- has a valve seat --56-- at its outer end, which is connected to the axial bore -57-, which partially goes through the valve rod --21-- to form a radial bore - 58-- runs inside the filter-29-is in communication.
With the valve construction in the position shown, which corresponds to a cold state of the temperature-responsive element --53--, the supply opening --28-- acts to generate either a subnormal or supernormal pressure in the recess --10--, so that air flows through the filter -29--, the radial bore --58--, axial bore --57-- and the open valve seat --56-- to the valve chamber --16--, from where the air flow either inwards depending on the pressure or outside through the channel - 24 -, passage 25 and passage opening - is fed to the part to be controlled.
The compression spring --40-- and the pressure plate - keep the valve ball --18-- closed against the seat at the outer end of the valve chamber.

--53-- increased - moves and closes against the surface of the same. The temperature at which this takes place is determined or calibrated by the set position of the thread attachment --52-- in the internal thread --51- of the fitting piece --43--. The valve construction acts in this way to cut off the supply of a control pressure from the supply opening -28- to the passage opening -26.
Almost immediately after the supply is interrupted, the next section of movement of the valve rod --21-- lifts the valve ball --18-- from its seat at the end of the valve chamber - and the passage opening -26- and the valve chamber -16-- are placed around the valve ball --18-- vented around into the filter --32-- and the air flows through this to the vents --39-- to the atmosphere in order to restore the atmospheric pressure in the control part. When the system is working at super normal pressure, the air flows from the
EMI4.2
whereas with subnormal operating pressure or partial vacuum of the system, the air flows inwards through the ventilation openings -39--, the filter -32- and the passage opening -26- to the actuated part.
A very small movement of the push pin-54- and the valve rod -21- in the critical area for which the valve is set is sufficient to bring the latter either into its open or closed position. When the ball valve is closed by the valve ball -18-, the valve ball first rests on the end of the valve chamber -16- before the operating pressure is admitted to the valve chamber -16- and to the actuated part, so there is no possibility for there is a loss of operating pressure via the ventilation openings --39--.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the valve construction, in which the housing-1A- with the same outer recess --7A - and the outlet filter --32A-- as well as the same passage opening --26A-- and the supply opening - 28A - as provided in the first embodiment of the valve. The recess --10A--, however, ends in an inward-pointing paragraph --13A-- with a depression --22A-- at its outer end. The valve rod passage - 19A - and the valve chamber - 16A - are formed directly in the housing - 1A - without the use of a further, inner valve body - 15 - (Fig. 1).
The filter --29A-- rests against a guide disk --31A--, the function of which during assembly corresponds to that of the ring guide part --31--. The valve stem --21-- and the valve ball --18-- are the same as in the first form of valve. Also, the valve construction works in the same way as the first embodiment. The inner passage-25A-from the

The filters - 29 and 32 - can consist of porous ceramic material, sintered metal, porous bronze, aluminum or any similar material of a porous nature and filter properties with sufficient strength to absorb the pressure forces acting on them.
