Accumulators of the lead-sulfuric acid type, which are surrounded by an electrolyte-permeable, electrolyte-resistant, insulating, tubular casing made of a film made of a polyester, epoxy or other hardenable synthetic resin, achieved according to the invention in that the casing is of such a thickness, that their diameter remains constant at operating temperature and an internal pressure of up to 30 kg / cm2. The immediate advantage, which is achieved with the aid of casings according to the invention, is that the discharge and thus the sulphate formation is limited.
If the pores in the active material cannot expand and are more or less filled with sulphate during the discharge, the penetration of further sulfuric acid and thus the discharge is stopped.
Studies have shown that if the positive battery mass is prevented from expanding during its discharge, an internal pressure in the pores of the order of magnitude of 35 to 50 atm, depending on the thickness of the electrodes and the like. similar the pressure at which the envelopes according to the invention do not expand.
A polyester film or a film made of epoxy resin or another hardenable plastic is mentioned here as an example of a suitable material. One type of polyester film is known by the trade name "Mylar" and is manufactured in thicknesses of 0.05 mm and up. It goes without saying that the wall thickness of this type of casing should be as small as possible and, since Mylar is a very tough material, it is particularly suitable for the purpose in question here.
If you expect that the accumulator will reach temperatures of 50 to 600C, it can be mentioned as an example that the thickness of the mylar layer has to be in the order of magnitude of 0.08 to 0.1 mm in order to be able to withstand the pressure generated here.
The invention is described in more detail in connection with the drawings, in which FIG. 1 shows a view of part of the electrode according to the invention and FIG. 2 shows a section of an electrode sheath. The conductive bars-l-are united at the top by means of a transverse bar --2 - which

active material --6-- surrounds the conductive rods and these themselves are surrounded by the sheath-5-. FIG. 3 shows a cross section through the electrode according to A-A in FIG. 1.
