Hochdruckschmierstoffe
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

High pressure lubricants
The invention relates to lubricants based on mineral or synthetic, oily or fatty lubricants.
It is already known that additions of molybdenum disulphide or similar solid lubricants can considerably increase the pressure absorption capacity of lubricants.
There are also known from German Patent No. 1090804 lubricants which contain alkali and alkaline earth phosphates to increase the high pressure properties of the base lubricant.
Surprisingly, it has now been found that the extreme pressure properties of lubricants based on mineral and / or synthetic lubricating oils and lubricating greases can advantageously be improved if they contain lubricating solids, in particular those with a layer lattice structure together with water-insoluble metal salts of phosphoric oxygen acids.
It is known from British Patent No. 176,572 to treat metals with aqueous phosphating baths to form a lubricating layer and then to remove the excess treatment agent or to dry the metal object. This is done with extremely strongly acidic aqueous baths which in any case must contain free phosphoric acid, for example in concentrations of about 10 to 5010.
Apart from the fact that such a phosphating treatment only leads to layers that have a lubricating effect for a limited period of time and permanent lubrication is therefore not possible, this known method by no means indicates that a significant improvement in the extreme pressure properties of mineral or synthetic lubricating oils and greases can be achieved this is possible when these oils and fats contain a combination of lubricating solids and water-insoluble metal salts of phosphorus-oxygen acids.
In contrast to the aqueous preparations of the aforementioned known process, such oils and fats do not need to contain free acids.
Furthermore, from DAS 1, 088,644 lubricants based on water are known which contain lubricating solids, in particular with a layer lattice, such as molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, graphite, and also compounds and dispersion stabilizers that loosen the sliding surfaces. The compounds which loosen the sliding surfaces are acidic phosphorus-oxygen compounds, in particular orthophosphoric acid and mixtures thereof with small amounts of heavy metal phosphates, in particular zinc phosphate. These lubricants are aqueous, strongly acidic, oil-free preparations in which the lubricating properties are caused exclusively by the lubricating solids and the phosphoric acid, possibly together with a salt, is only used to loosen the surface.
In contrast, the preparations according to the invention are lubricants based on mineral or synthetic lubricating oils and fats, but not aqueous suspensions. The water-insoluble phosphates contained in substantial quantities have no effect on the surface loosening, but are essentially lubricating, whereby
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
this effect is based essentially on a surprising synergetic effect.
As solid lubricants, the known lubricating substances such as heavy metal sulfides, z. B. sulfides of group VI a of the periodic table, especially MoS2 or WS2, also the selenides and tellurides of Mo and W, graphite, hydroxides of calcium, lithium, magnesium, cadmium, iron, cobalt, nickel and manganese, fluorides, especially alkali and Alkaline earth fluorides or inorganic fluorine complexes such as cryolite, calcium cyanamide, halides of manganese, calcium, cadmium, zinc, iron and cobalt and the like. Like. Solid lubricants may be included.
The water-insoluble metal salts can be derived from phosphoric oxygen acids of electropositive pentavalent or electropositive trivalent phosphorus. The salts can be used both from monomeric acids such as orthophosphoric acid or phosphorous acid, as well as from condensation products or oligomeric and polymeric phosphorus oxygen derivatives such as. B. pyrophosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid and. like. descend. In general, preference is given to the sparingly or poorly water-soluble

The practically anhydrous lubricants according to the invention based on lubricating oil or. Grease bases can have any consistency. Depending on the selection of the oily or greasy base lubricant and any viscosity-influencing agents, the lubricants according to the invention can be in the form of hard waxes or slightly mobile liquids. Of course, dispersants can be included in order to ensure a fine distribution of the extreme pressure additives. The finest possible distribution of the high pressure additives in the form of a dispersion is necessary both to avoid sedimentation and to ensure perfect effectiveness.
The following basic lubricants come into consideration, for example: mineral oils, mineral fats, soaps of alkali metals with higher fatty acids, natural and synthetic waxes such as beeswax, carnauba wax, oxide waxes, dysentery waxes, ozokerites and others or mixtures thereof, organic, synthetic lubricating oils based on polyisobutenes, polyglycols , Polyesters, phosphoric acid esters, fluorocarbons, silicones, silicate esters, polyphenyl ethers and the like. a.
In general, the layer lattice solids and metal salts of the phosphorus-oxygen acids are contained in amounts of 0.5 to 75% by weight, based on the total lubricant. Contents of 3 to 60% are preferred.
Furthermore, the metal salts of the phosphorus-oxygen acids are often present in amounts of 2 to 50, preferably 5 to 25% by weight, based on the total mass of metal salt and solid lubricant.
In the following, some lubricants according to the invention are presented in the form of examples, with the aid of the tests on the VKA and the AWM simultaneously showing the significant improvement in the lubricating properties of the combination according to the invention compared with the lubricants which contain only one combination partner in the same amount.
