Signaling device
The invention relates to a device for signaling as a function of the altitude of a swimmer on a column of liquid by means of a semiconductor, onto which a light beam occasionally interrupted by the swimmer falls. It is an aim of the invention to configure a device of this type in such a way that it can be used in rooms at risk of explosion, with special protective regulations having to be taken into account.
The aim according to the invention is achieved. when the semiconductor is in the focal point of a converging lens, via which daylight or room light present in the room where the device is installed falls onto the semiconductor as a controlling light beam. This configuration makes it possible to get by with currents of a few microamps at a voltage of a few millivolts, so that the device according to the invention can be used particularly appropriately for rooms at risk of explosion. The amplifier connected downstream of the device can, as is customary, be set up in separate switch rooms.
The device according to the invention is particularly suitable for regulating and / or controlling work processes, filling containers and the like. like
In the case of opaque media, such as B. bitumen or the like. M., You can arrange a translucent float in the standpipe containing the liquid column, so that the pulse is given by the incident light beam from the semiconductor when the translucent float comes between the light source and the semiconductor.
If one arranges several chambers with semiconductors and light sources on a standing tube, one has the possibility of being able to trigger several switching processes with a single float, provided of course that a pressure is exerted on a liquid column by some work process, or this liquid column is in connection with a container interior stands. So z. B. a maxi-

or minimum switch to turn off any should.
Further features of the invention emerge from the following description of an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing, which schematically shows a device according to the invention with a remote light source.
A float 2 is supported in a transparent tube 1 by a liquid level. On both sides of the tube 1, exactly opposite one another, chambers 3 and 4 are arranged, with a semiconductor 5 being arranged in the chamber 3 and a lens 8 being arranged at the entrance of the chamber 4, onto which the light rays 9 from an external, not shown light source fall.
The lens 8 collects these light rays and concentrates them on the semiconductor 5, which is approximately at the focal point. Each time the opaque float 2 passes through, a switching pulse occurs because the "light exposure" of the semiconductor is highly sensitive to the smallest light differences responds, changes, so that a pulse is immediately given to the switching relay, not shown, with which the semiconductor 5

is in communication by means of an electrical line 7. In the case of hot media, provision can be made for cooling the chambers.
The device according to the invention can, however, not only be used with a standing upright tube 1 standing upright, but the device according to the invention can also be used with inclined standpipes or - with appropriate pressurization on both sides - with horizontally lying standpipes.
