S. Moore u. a. Autoren haben die Synthese von Disalizylthiodiglykol
EMI1.2

Polymer mixture stabilized against aging and the effects of light and heat
The present invention relates to the use of aromatic thioesters for stabilizing polyolefins.
In our own Austrian Patent No. 229856, the synthesis of thioesters of the formula
EMI1.1
described in which R and R 'are aliphatic groups with 8-30 carbon atoms; their use for stabilizing crystalline polyolefins produced in the presence of stereospecific catalysts is also claimed.
S. Moore et al. a. Authors did the synthesis of disalicylthiodiglycol
EMI1.2
by reacting ss, ss'-ethyl dichloride sulfide with sodium salicylate (J. Org. Chem. 11, 675-680, 1946).
It has now been found and forms the subject of the present invention that compounds from the Tao
EMI1.3
where R and R 'mean an aryl nucleus, and in particular the disalicylthiodiglycol has a good stabilizing effect against heat, aging and light in polyolefins, especially in the presence of stereospecific catalysts produced polymers of propylene, and in compositions which not only polyolefins, but also others contain nitrogenous compounds.
Fig. 1 shows the spectrum of disalicylthiodiglycol; the wavelengths expressed in jjL are plotted on the abscissa, while the transmittances are plotted on the ordinate.
According to the invention, the compounds encompassed by the general formula are added to the polyolefin in amounts between 0.02 and 2% by weight of the polyolefin.
The following examples are intended to explain the present invention without, however, being restricted thereto.
Examples 1 and 2: In Examples 1 and 2, experiments are shown which relate to thermal degradation (a), stability against accelerated thermal aging (b) and stability against solar radiation (c) for a composition to which a stabilizer according to the present invention had been added (Example 1) and as a comparison for a non-stabilized composition (Example 2).
