 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

To cancel the electromotive forces that occur in the respective short-circuited coil in collector machines, special auxiliary windings (auxiliary poles) are often used, which, connected in series with the armature, also have the intended success in DC machines. With direct current machines only electromotive forces occur which are dependent on the rotation of the armature; when using alternating current, however, an electromotive force is added to this as a result of the pulsation of the main field, which can be briefly referred to as the electromotive force of the transformation. This electromotive force is BEZW against the main field. the armature current is shifted by a quarter of a period, so it cannot be canceled directly by the auxiliary winding excited by the main current, as is the case with Gloichstrom machines.

In accordance with the resultant of the electromotive forces in the short-circuited coil, the excitation current of the auxiliary winding must be shifted in phase against the armature current.

This phase shift can now be achieved in the following way:
Parallel to the auxiliary winding, which is held in series with the anchor, an ohmic shear
 EMI1.2
according to known laws, their current is delayed in phase compared to the unbranched current. In this way, any phase shift of the auxiliary field can be achieved within certain limits. However, the actual conditions in AC motors also make the method described above an economically favorable one. In reality, in AC motors, the electromotive force of the rotation in the short-circuited coil substantially outweighs the electromotive force of the transformation.

The phase shift of the auxiliary field is therefore
 EMI1.3
   Resistance is negligible.

The above representations naturally also relate to single-phase collector motors with a compensation winding distributed around the circumference of the entire armature, part of which forms the excitation winding of the auxiliary field.
