Gymnastik-Sandale
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Gym sandal
The invention relates to a gymnastics sandal, which consists of a rigid sole body designed according to orthopedic aspects on its upper side, a thin outsole made of elastic material such as rubber or plastic and which is attached to the underside of the sole body and which is in the front part on the sides of the Straps attached to the sole body or the like as holding means for the foot, the rigid sole body, which is made of wood, cork, plastic or the like, is provided with a coating on its upper side and on its lateral peripheral edge surfaces Edge on the
The underside of the sole body is turned over and covered by the glued-on outsole.
The invention consists in that the coating consists of a thermoplastic plastic film.
A thermoplastic plastic film is particularly advantageous as a coating because it can easily be completely free of wrinkles; because the thermoplastic coating clings to all the bumps and depressions on the upper side of the sole without annoying wrinkles. Further educates
Plastic film is a smooth outer skin of the surface of the sole body that is not covered by the outsole. The thickness of this covering skin is considerably greater than a conventional layer of lacquer; it is therefore able to compensate for roughness in the sole body. It is therefore possible to profile the sole body - if it is made of wood - by milling it on a copier milling machine and then cover it with the film without further processing.
There is no need for the smooth sanding, which was previously necessary before painting and which caused relatively high costs, and, if necessary, additional staining of the wood.
In order to give the film skin on the upper side of the sole body a certain grip, it has proven to be useful to use a plastic film that is grained on the outside and on which the foot of the user of the sandal cannot slide sideways as easily as on a polished and varnished one Wooden sole. This lateral sliding away easily leads to the fact that the foot, when stepping on, rests on the comparatively sharp lateral edges of the sole body and presses itself painfully against these edges.
Further properties of the gymnastics sandal according to the invention emerge from the following description of an exemplary embodiment which is illustrated in the drawing; 1 shows a side view of the gymnastic sandal; FIGS. 2 and 3 cross sections through the sandal along the lines II-II and III-III of FIG. 1; 4 shows a view of the underside of the wooden sole body of the sandal, before the rubber outsole is glued on.
The gymnastic sandal shown partially cut open in Fig. 1 consists of the relatively strong, rigid wooden sole body l, which is covered on its orthopedic top side la and its lateral edge surfaces Ib with a wrinkle-free cover 2 made of a thermoplastic, preferably grained plastic film. On the front part of the sole body 1, two leather straps 4 and 5 are fastened above the film cover 2 by means of screws 3, one of which has a buckle 6 and the other is provided with a perforated tongue 7.
An elastic rubber outsole 8 is glued to the underside of the wooden sole body 1 and covers the edge 9 of the cover 2, which can be seen in FIG. 4 and is turned inward around the lower wooden sole edge.
The wrinkle-free cover 2 of the wooden sole body 1 is produced by a vacuum molding process in such a way that the thermoplastic plastic film is clamped in a frame and up to
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
their deformation temperature is heated. Under the frame there is a mold table through which a mandrel-shaped carrier protrudes, onto which the sole body 1 is attached with its center. By
Raising the mold table and the mandrel-shaped carrier, the sole body is brought tightly under the film, while the mold table seals against the clamping frame.
The air is now sucked out of the cavity delimited by the film on the one hand and the mold table on the other hand through openings in the mold table provided below the sole body. The film held by the tenter frame initially lies down on the surface of the sole body with plastic deformation and hugs all of the depressions and bulges tightly. With further
When the air is sucked off, the plastic film also lies completely crease-free on the lateral edge surfaces of the sole body and finally becomes curved under the lower edge of the sole body
Retracted towards the dome-shaped carrier.
Then the sole body with its support is pulled down onto the mold table, the arched bulge of the film being flattened and pressed against the underside edge zone of the sole body. After removing the sole body from the vacuum pulling device, the protruding part of the film is cut off.
The sole body is expediently coated with an adhesive, which firmly connects the plastic film with the material of the sole body, before it is coated.
The rigid wooden sole 1 covered with plastic looks on its underside 1c after being covered as shown in FIG. Adhesive is then applied to this smooth underside and the rubber sole 3 is glued on with high pressure.
Finally, the tabs 4 and 5, which may be lined on their inside, are attached in a manner known per se to the sides of the wooden sole body 1 covered with plastic film.
Since the wooden sole body 1 is completely covered on its upper side and on its side surfaces by the cover 2, any light wood can be used as the material for this sole body. It is not necessary to carefully check the wood for knot cleanliness and particularly good polishability; there may be knots and discoloration. Furthermore, the wooden body can have rough surface areas, as they easily occur when the surface profile is milled as a result of the wooden structure. These "external" defects in the wood are covered by the film.
There are no disadvantages for the use of the sandal due to possible defects in the wooden body; the film lying over the remaining roughness prevents the foot of the user of the sandal from spitting these roughness.
The plastic film, which consists of a thermoplastic synthetic resin that does not have a harmful or adverse effect on the skin of the feet, as is also used as "artificial leather", can be used in a thickness of one to several tenths of a millimeter. With its relatively high material strength, it forms excellent edge protection for the upper marginal edges of the wooden sole body 1. Even if the edges are hit hard against sharp corners or the like, the film - in contrast to a paintwork - is not damaged. At most, slight impressions of the wooden sole body 1 can occur, but these remain covered by the film.
Finally, it should be mentioned that you can use foils of any color, so that there is the possibility of adapting the color of the sandal to the respective fashion color.
