Protection device against the overload of electric motors.
The present invention relates to protective devices for electric motors and is intended to prevent harmful sparking on the brushes of the same when the motors are temporarily running as generators.
When operating shunt and compound motors, where changes in speed are caused by changes in the voltage of the operating current or the strength of the shunt field or both. Funds are brought about together, it has been found that when switching from a higher to a lower voltage or when the shunt field of the motor suddenly increases, there is a questionable spark formation on the brushes, since the motor then temporarily runs as a generator and sends current into the feed line.
According to the present invention, the device is made such that for the times when the motor is running as a generator, resistors are automatically switched into the armature line of the motor. thereby avoiding harmful spark formation on the brushes. In contrast to known devices in which a series resistor of the field winding is switched off by a short circuit by a differentially wound electromagnet in order to strengthen the field if necessary, according to the present invention, a series resistor is switched into the armature circuit by an electromagnet with a differential winding when in Armature current reversal occurs, but otherwise held off by short circuit.
The drawing schematically illustrates an embodiment of the present invention,
EMI1.1
is indirectly connected to the main conductor 4, 5, while the latter is connected on the one hand to the main line 4 and on the other hand to a current connection piece 8. The main conductors 4, 5, 6 are connected to a suitable current source 7, which is capable of supplying currents of different voltages, for example a direct current machine that feeds a three-wire system in a known manner, the voltage difference between the conductors 4 and 6 'being greater (approximately twice as big) is like the one between the conductors 4 and 5 respectively. 5 and 6.
A resistor 9 is on the one hand to the current connection piece 8 and on the other hand to a

the resistor 9 connected. One end of the magnetic core 1 is equipped with a current circuit spring or brush 13 of low resistance, the ends of which come into contact with the current circuit pieces 8, 12 when the magnetic core is held high due to the passage of current through the windings 2, 3.
The field magnet winding J4 of the motor can be connected to any two main conductors, such as 4 and 6, and the current level therein can be regulated in any suitable manner such as by a switch 15 as required.

Speed as its armature is connected to main conductors 4, 6 of higher voltage difference. If, however, the switch 11 is suddenly placed on the current connection piece 17, the armature runs immediately after the switchover at a greater speed than that which corresponds to the voltage of the current then supplied by the main conductors 4 and 5, i.e. H. the engine runs as a generator and delivers electricity to the main line.
While the motor is receiving high voltage current from main conductors 4 and 6, the grain J! held up so that the brush 13 rests against the current connection pieces S and 12 and the two windings 2 and 3 work together to hold the core in this position.
However, when the motor is running as a generator, the direction of the current in the winding 3 is reversed, the magnetizing forces of the coils 2 and 3 cancel each other out, the magnetic core 1 falls due to its gravity and the brush 13 comes out of contact with the current connection pieces 8 and 12 , so that the motor running as a generator only delivers current through the resistor 9 to the main conductor, until the counter electromotive force is approximately equal to the voltage difference between the main conductors 4 and 5, whereupon the magnetic core is raised again and the connection between the Current connection pieces 8 and 12 is restored by the brush 13.
The mode of operation of the device is similar to that just described if the shunt field of the motor generated by the winding 14 is suddenly increased or the motor starts to run as a generator for other reasons.
According to the above description, the invention is primarily intended for supply line networks which can supply currents of several different voltages, but it is apparently also applicable to networks for only one voltage if the motors connected to the same can temporarily run as generators .
According to the drawing, the motor is only equipped with a shunt field winding. but it can obviously also have a series field winding.
Any switches can of course be used to effect the circuit changes required to practice the present invention.
