<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Coupling sleeve for multi-speed gear hubs
In the construction of multi-speed gear hubs for bicycles and motorcycles, there has recently been a shift towards transmitting the drive torque between a driver and the different parts of a planetary gear, depending on the shift position, by means of a coupling sleeve which has a drive-side toothing for constant engagement with a Counter-toothing of the driver and a planetary gear-side toothing for optional engagement with counter-toothing of the respective effective parts of the
Has planetary gear.
The coupling sleeves have replaced the drivers previously used for torque transmission and offer various advantages over them; they work with lesser ones
Surface pressures and are therefore less exposed to wear and tear and they work with less
Play in the circumferential direction, so that empty passage is excluded.
The invention has for its object to provide a coupling sleeve that is most efficient
Manufacturing methods can be produced and on the other hand fulfills their function in an optimal way.
From the functional side, two requirements in particular must be met:
1. The toothing on the planetary gear should be as fine a toothing as possible, d. H. have as many teeth as possible so that the switching edges are stressed as little as possible and thus that
Play in the circumferential direction is as small as possible.
2. The coupling sleeve should interact in a simple manner with a displacement member which is actuated by a pull rod in the hub axle and which, when shifting, causes the coupling sleeve to be displaced in the axial direction.
In terms of production, the aim is to simplify the manufacture of the two toothings and the point of application of the displacement member.
All these requirements are met in the design of the coupling sleeve according to the invention. This is characterized in that with the same product of the number of teeth and the tooth module, i. H. With the same pitch circle diameter, the planetary gear-side toothing is designed with a large number of teeth and a small module and the drive-side toothing is designed with a small number of teeth and a large module and that in the area of the driver-side toothing between two teeth, a radial bore is provided for the passage of a sliding element operated by a push rod that extends out of the hub axle is
The design of the drive-side toothing with only a few teeth and a large module allows the sliding element to be introduced between two teeth and is therefore not objectionable on the other hand,
because on the driver side the coupling sleeve always remains in engagement with the driver and therefore the risk of excessive play in the circumferential direction cannot arise in the first place.
The particular advantage of the design of the coupling sleeve according to the invention is that the two toothings can be produced with a double tool in a single clamping and in one operation. The prerequisite for this simplified manufacturing option is the equality of the pitch circle diameters of both gears. The reason for this condition will be further specified.
The toothing on the drive side is expediently placed on a larger diameter than the toothing on the planetary gear side. Thereby one gains on the one hand manufacturing advantages, which can be seen in the description of the manufacturing in detail, and on the other hand the advantage
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
lower surface pressure, since with the same drive torque the circumferential force to be transmitted decreases with increasing tooth diameter, so that the lower number of teeth at most eliminates the following disadvantages due to the enlarged tooth diameter.
The figures explain the invention. The figures show: FIG. 1 a partial longitudinal section through a bicycle multi-speed gear hub with a coupling sleeve designed according to the invention, FIG. 2 a view of a coupling sleeve designed according to the invention from the side, FIG. 3 a front view of the coupling sleeve according to FIG. 2, 4 shows a schematic view of the manufacturing process of the toothings on a coupling collar according to the invention, FIG. 5 shows a plan view of FIG.
The gear hub shown in FIG. 1 comprises a hub axle 10. A driver 14 is mounted on this hub axle 10 by means of a ball bearing 12. The driver 14 is connected to a toothed ring 16. A bearing shell 20 is mounted on the driver 14 by means of a further ball bearing 18.
This bearing shell 20 is screwed to a hub sleeve 22.
The driver 14 has an internal toothing 24. An external toothing 26 of a coupling sleeve 28 engages in this internal toothing. This coupling sleeve 28 has. at its other end a further toothing 30. In the switching position of FIG. 1, the drive torque is transmitted from the driver 14 to a toothed ring 32 through the coupling sleeve. The ring gear 32 is connected to a planet wheel carrier 34, u. between the fact that it is placed on the ends 36 of bearing journals 40 carrying planet gears 38. The planet gears 38 mesh on the one hand with a sun gear 42 of the hub axle 10 and on the other hand with a ring gear 44.
In the switching position of FIG. 1, the hub sleeve drives the planetary gear carrier via its toothing 30, which meshes with the ring gear 32, so that the
Ring gear 44 experiences a movement translated into high speed and transmits this movement to a pawl carrier 46. The pawl carrier 46 is coupled to the ring gear 44 so that it cannot rotate but is displaceable in the axial direction. Its pawls, not shown, engage in a ratchet ring 48 of the bearing shell 20.
A pull rod 50 is guided in an axial bore in the hub axle 10 and is displaceable by a pull chain 52. At the inner end, the pull rod 50 is combined with a thrust block 53 which is displaceable in a radial window 54 of the hub axle and engages with its end protruding from the radial window 54 in a bore 56 of the coupling sleeve 28. The coupling sleeve can be displaced along the hub axis 10 by means of the thrust block 53, so that its external toothing 30 can disengage from the ring gear 32 and engage with a toothing 58 of the ring gear.
The formation of the coupling sleeve is shown in detail in FIGS. It can be seen that the drive-side toothing 30 has a large number of teeth, in the example the number of teeth 18 and a small module, in the example the module 1, while the drive-side toothing 26 has a small number of teeth, in the example the number of teeth 6 and a large module, in the example has module 3. The product of the number of teeth and the module, which is decisive for the pitch circle diameter, is therefore the same in both cases, i.e. H. there is a common pitch circle. which is shown in FIG. 3 and denoted by 60. The distance between two successive teeth of the toothing 26 is so large that a tooth gap can accommodate the bore 56 for the thrust block 53.
In fig. 4 and 5, the production of the teeth 26 and 30 of the coupling sleeve 28 is shown schematically. This is done by means of a double tool 62, consisting of a first gear-shaped push knife 64 for pushing the toothing 30 and, with a corresponding offset, a likewise gear-shaped pushing knife 66 for pushing the toothing 26. The coupling sleeve is advanced in the direction of arrow B relative to the tool. In addition, the double tool 62 rotates in the direction of the arrow C, while the sleeve moves in the direction of the arrow D. In the process, the teeth of the gear-shaped cutter blades 64 and 66 roll on the teeth of the toothings 26 and 30 that are created.
It does not really matter how this rolling movement comes about; Likewise, it does not matter which ion of the two relatively movable parts is pushed.
The condition for the equality of the pitch circle diameters of the two toothings 64 and 66 can be seen without further ado from FIG.
The pitch circle 60 is the circle in which one has to imagine the rolling motion of this gear with the push knife 64. Of course, a pitch circle, which is designated by 61, is also assigned to the push knife. During the rolling movement of the tooth system 30 and the ram cutter 64, the circumferential speed in the pitch circles 60 and 61 is the same. The toothing 26 is now rigidly connected to the toothing 30 and the pushing knife 66 to the pushing knife 64. The rolling movement of the toothing 30 on the cutter 64 must therefore result in the same speed of the double tool as the rolling
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
movement of the teeth 26 on the cutter 66.
According to the foregoing, this condition can only be met if the toothing 26 has the same pitch circle radius as the toothing 30 and if the jack knife 66 has the same pitch circle radius as the jack knife 64.
