 bekanntes Verfahren vorstellt.

  Process for the production of fused magnesia
 EMI1.1

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 introduces known process. The cyclone only develops temperatures which are sufficient for the production of caustic burned or weakly sintered magnesite, but not for complete sintering, as is achieved in a shaft or rotary kiln. However, the further processing of a caustic burned or pre-sintered magnesite obtained by the cyclone into well-burned sintered magnesite requires briquetting or agglomeration of the intermediate product, which is still fine-grained, in order to enable sintering in a shaft or rotary kiln.

   However, such production would not be economical. According to the invention, the fine-grained starting material which has been caustic-fired or presintered, fine-grained starting material in the cyclone - that is to say inexpensively - is given to the electric arc furnace. H. the granulation or briquetting bypassed. This process for the production of high quality fused magnesite is extremely economical. A further improvement in economic efficiency can be achieved by introducing the caustic-fired or already pre-sintered intermediate product, which leaves the cyclone in a hot state, into the electric furnace while it is still in this state; H. Avoids intermediate cooling and the associated heat losses as far as possible.

   It should be noted that it is known to start with finely ground, caustic-burned magnesia or similar sinter in the production of refractory molded articles made of sintered magnesia.

   The quality of the end product obtained by the present process depends largely on the purity of the starting product, since the magnesium carbonate of the starting product is separated from certain accompanying substances, such as B. lime, silica, etc., requires fine grain. Starting from a fine-grained raw magnesite therefore meets the aim of the invention, which is the production of high-quality fused magnesia in an economical manner.

Claims (1)

PATENT CLAIM: A method for producing fused magnesia by melting down magnesia in an electric furnace, characterized in that fine-grained raw magnesite, preferably obtained by flotation, is used as the starting product, this, as is known per se, caustic burned or pre-sintered in a cyclone and the electric furnace with this magnesite, which is expediently still warm, is charged.
