Process for the production of fast-curing paint films from solutions of acrolein resins

If, for example, 1% diethylenetriamine is added to the same resin solution according to the invention, films are obtained which are tack-free after just 40 minutes; their pendulum hardness according to König is 105 seconds after 24 hours. The film is completely unchanged after 5 minutes in Zeiger sodium hydroxide solution, as is the case in pure acetic acid.
The resin solutions to be produced according to the invention remain processable for a long time and it is possible to vary the so-called "pot life" through the type and concentration of the amine added. For example, the "pot life" when adding

The films have good resistance to chemicals, in particular to sodium hydroxide solution.
Example 2: If a solution (toluene: ethylglycol = 1: 1) of 100 parts by weight of a resin made from 70 parts by weight of acrolein, 15 parts by weight of trimethylpropane and phenyl glycidyl ether is a solution having a solids content of 50-6% When 1 part by weight of dipropylenetrlamine is added, a resin solution is obtained which gives cold-curing paints with the properties described in Example 1.
Example 3: 100 parts by weight of an acrolein polymer from 65 parts by weight of acrolein, 30 parts by weight of p, p'-dihydroxydiphenylpropane and 5 parts by weight of triethylene glycol are mixed with 6 parts by weight of a 50% alcoholic solution of a known under the trade name "Laromin B 250" aromatic polyamine added. This resin solution provides quick-drying film coatings that are characterized by high gloss, good adhesion to glass, wood and metal and good chemical resistance.
