Animal feed and method of manufacture
The present invention relates to new feedstuffs for animals and a method for their production.
These agents are intended to improve the general condition of animals and to accelerate growth on the basis of the metabolic properties of the products according to the invention.
It was found that compounds of the general formula:
EMI1.1
in which Z is a hydroxyl group (including the corresponding non-toxic salts formed with inorganic or organic bases), an alkoxy or an amino radical optionally substituted by 1 or 2 alkyl radicals, have important metabolic properties, and that they, added to the diet of animals, such as for example rats, dogs, poultry, pigs, sheep and cattle, lead to much more significant weight gain in the course of growth or fattening than is observed in animals fed normal diets.
In addition, this weight gain is very specific. It actually corresponds to a real formation of new tissue and not to an increased water storage of the organism, as studies have shown that were carried out with rats that received these products in their diet. Another advantage of the compounds of the formula given above is the fact that they have no unpleasant side effects.
Finally, the treated animals remain in excellent health and the natural mortality is lower than that of control animals. It was also found that these compounds have no carcinogenic effects and the like. between in vivo and in vitro.
Among the compounds according to the invention, 2-formyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid and its salts have proven to be particularly effective.
The present invention therefore relates to new compositions which are intended to achieve weight gain in animals and which contain at least one compound of the above general formula and in particular 2-formyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid or its non-toxic salts, such as, for example, the mineral salts (e.g. B. sodium salt) or ammonium or amine salts together with inorganic or organic substances commonly used for animal nutrition.
The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the above-mentioned agents, which consists in adding at least one of the compounds defined above in proportions between 0.001 and 1% by weight, based on inorganic or organic substances intended for animal nutrition the food to bring in.
The following example explains the invention without restricting it.
Example:
2 groups of 10 young male rats each of a uniform strain receive a uniform diet for 4 weeks, consisting of 50 o / o carbohydrates, 25 o / o proteins, 3, 5 solo lipids and 3 o / o mineral salts and vitamins and water as the rest Crowd exists.
The treated rats also receive 100 mg / kg of 2-formyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (prepared according to Störmer Ann. 1900 Vol. 312, p. 326) in the form of the sodium salt, dissolved in water, the concentration of the solution is chosen so that the volume administered

At the end of the examination, the animals are killed and the water content in the organism is determined. The treated animals had a mean content of 62.1%, and the comparison animals had a mean content of 67.1%.
This clearly shows that the weight gain does not correspond to a hydration of the tissues, but rather that the tested product has the effect of promoting the formation of new tissues.
