Interference suppression plugs, in particular for spark plugs
The invention relates to an interference suppression plug with a plastic housing in which an interference suppression resistor encased by insulating material sits, in particular for interference suppression of spark plugs.
In the known interference suppression plugs of this type, the resistance is coated with a thin layer of lacquer to protect against corrosion. Ionization of the air occurs in the immediate vicinity of the resistor, which can lead to corona discharges. Such a discharge means a short circuit of the resistor and makes the interference suppression ineffective. In addition, the

shift result.
Furthermore, moisture and traces of contamination can lead to leakage current paths even on a high-quality paint layer and thus also reduce the desired resistance value. In order to eliminate this disadvantage, it is known to surround the resistor with a ceramic sleeve instead of the lacquer layer. However, this measure, which is relatively complex, does not provide any effective remedy for the mentioned ionization phenomena and the corona discharges resulting therefrom.
Such resistors are heat-resistant, but not
EMI1.2
On the other hand, the known resistors embedded in rubber or in a lacquer cover generally consisting of several individual layers are not sufficiently heat-resistant. Moisture and heat, as well as the short-term voltage peaks occurring in electrical ignition circuits, however, place particularly high demands on the insulation of resistors in interference suppression plugs.
It is known to encase electrical resistors in a lacquer layer reinforced with heat-resistant fillers such as quartz sand and to seal them against the ingress of moisture on their surface by an additional silicone charge layer. Furthermore, electrical resistors are known whose current-carrying parts are completely embedded in enamel. It is also known that resistors protected by enamel layers can be coated with one or more silicone lacquer layers to protect against surface cracks. Such resistors are indeed more weatherproof and heat-resistant than resistors that are directly coated with paint, but they have the disadvantage that their protective cover consists of several sub-layers. Substances exist.
However, the manufacturing costs for such multilayer resistors are so high that they are not suitable for mass production of interference suppression plugs, where it is not so much a question of an exact resistance value as the durability of the interference suppression resistor that is once installed.
A simple interference suppression plug that avoids the disadvantages mentioned is obtained if, according to the invention, the current-carrying parts of the interference suppression resistor are embedded without gaps in a jacket made of spray-cured synthetic resin that is sufficiently thick to prevent corona discharges.
EMI1.3
known design in an approximately 0.3 mm thick synthetic resin layer. It is advantageous that the synthetic resin also surrounds the connection parts of the resistor, since these are particularly sensitive to thermal and mechanical stresses.
When using wire-wound resistors, it is expedient to also fix the wire winding with the synthetic resin cover and to fill in the spaces between the individual windings of the resistor and the winding carrier enclosed by it without any gaps. This has the advantage that there is no longer any need to paint or fix the winding of the wire resistor.
The interior of the interference suppression plug provided for installing the resistor can also be completely filled with synthetic resin, so that the interference suppression resistor in a corona discharge-preventing coating made of curable plastic sits in the housing without a gap. An advantageous method for producing an interference suppression plug of this type is that the synthetic resin is pressed into the space between the inner wall of the insulating material housing and the resistor inserted therein.
There are three exemplary embodiments in the drawing
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the subject matter of the invention each shown in longitudinal section. FIG. 1 shows the first exemplary embodiment, FIG. 2 the second, and FIG. 3 the third example.
The insulating housing 1 of the interference suppression plug according to FIG. 1 has a recess 2 for receiving the end of the ignition cable to be connected. A pointed screw 3 with a knurled cylinder head 7 in the connector housing is used to secure the end of the ignition cable and to establish good contact with the cable core. In addition, a socket 5 for connection to a spark plug is fastened in a recess 4 of the connector housing. The interference suppression resistor is located between the connection parts 3 and 5 and consists of a coil made of resistance wire and shown in section, wound onto a winding carrier 6.
The parts of the interference suppression resistor that carry the current are embedded without gaps in a relatively thick casing 8 made of curable plastic, so that no ionization occurs in their surroundings. the air can take place and the risk of corona discharges is eliminated. The resistance coil is fixed at one end by a metal cap 6 ′, which is firmly connected to a shoulder 7 ′ on the head 7 of the pointed screw 3 by welding or soldering
EMI2.1
A helical spring 9 is drawn on the opposite support, between the turns of which the corresponding end of the resistance wire is wrapped and thus clamped.
The helical spring 9 protrudes beyond the winding support and serves as a resilient connection part which establishes the electrically conductive connection with the plug socket 5. The section of the coil carrier 6 carrying the coil spring is offset at 10 approximately by twice the wire thickness of the coil spring, so that the synthetic resin coating also has approximately the same thickness at this connection end as in the middle section of the resistor body.
In this embodiment example, a mixture is used as synthetic resin in which 100 parts of polyester resin are mixed with 5 parts of a suspension agent and 2 parts of a hardener. The section of the suppressor plug which envelops the spark plug head is coated on the inside with a polyester resin layer 11, which has a smooth and dense surface. This ensures that any discharge that may occur in the connection space of the spark plug does not have a disadvantageous effect and cannot form leakage current paths.
The interference suppression effect is completed in a known manner by a metal capsule 12 encasing the plug with a spring ring 13.
EMI2.2
screw 3 and the socket? a wire-wound interference suppression stand 6, the metallic connection caps 6 'of which are connected to parts 3 and 5 in an electrically conductive manner. The connection is made by spot welding. The space between these parts and the housing 1 is completely filled with a synthetic resin compound 8 in which the resistor 6 is embedded in an airtight and vibration-proof manner. It is advantageous to use polyester resin, which has a small loss factor, so that the generation of heat is reduced to a minimum.
Since it is well known that capacities cause an increase in the burn-up of an ignition gap, a synthetic resin compound with a low dielectric constant should always be selected. The current heat generated in the interference suppression resistor can also be reduced
EMI2.3
Has thermal conductivity.
Mixing a polyester resin with Kaloin, for example in a ratio of 10: 3 parts by weight with the addition of a catalyst, is very suitable.
To produce the interference suppression plug, the interference suppression resistor and its connections are first inserted into the
EMI2.4
Insulating housing 1 hereupon the synthetic resin is injected into the space between the inner wall of the insulating material housing and the resistor 1 inserted therein.
In the example according to FIG. 3, the insulating material housing 1 is formed directly around the interference suppression resistor, the bushing 5 and the cylinder head of the pointed screw 3 not being knurled.
It is useful to use a casting resin for the housing, especially in powder form, which hardens in a very short time. It is important to choose a type of powder into which the interference suppression resistor can be pressed easily and without being damaged when molding. Alkyd resin powder is particularly suitable for this, but it has also been shown when using phenol / formaldehyde compounds that a resin embedded in synthetic resin
