Method and device for applying an emission layer to the substrate of indirectly heated hot cathodes of electrical discharge tubes
The invention relates to a method and a device with the aid of which it is possible to provide the substrate of indirectly heated incandescent cathodes with a smooth, dense, and uniformly thick layer of emission paste, with a firm adhesion of the
EMI1.1
Since this method requires a high consumption of emissions and solvents and only a very fuzzy limitation of the length of the latex layer can be achieved, it can only be used to obtain layers whose surfaces have a relatively high roughness of around 20 to 40! L have.
Compared to this known method, the cataphoretic covering of cathode sleeves offers certain advantages, but there are also blows! Difficulties with regard to the precise delimitation of the covering length and because of the need to seal the interior of the cathode sleeve during the covering process.
There is also a method for applying emission paste to tubular substrates of hot cathodes, in which a scraper wetted with emission paste is brought into contact with the cathode sleeve rotating about its horizontally arranged axis and the emission paste on the stripper is applied to the

becomes. This can be done.
However, it has proven to be difficult, in particular, to produce uniform layers with the resilient stripping
EMI1.3
the scraper separates from the applied layer after the stripping process has ended.
EMI1.4
According to the invention, this is done in that in a method for applying the emission layer to the substrate of indirectly heated glow cathodes of electrical discharge tubes, the emission paste from the loading

this will certainly avoid the formation of a "seam" on the cover of the substrate.
The method according to the invention allows a cataphoretic deposition to be achieved in a simple manner at the same time as the application of the emission paste by means of a rolling process, for which purpose the covering roller must be given a positive potential with respect to the substrate. After the covering process, the necessary drying process can also be carried out very easily by rotating the covered layer support further; drying times of around 20 seconds are possible.
EMI1.6
Drawing is explained below an embodiment of a device according to the invention.
The cover roller J, which is expediently backed at the edge and which is in

dips into the cover gas container 2 and constantly takes a film of emulsion paste with it.
This film comes into contact with the layer carrier 4, which also rotates about 1.5 mm away from the roller 1 in the sense of being carried along, but at a lower peripheral speed than the roller 1. The direction of rotation of the layer carrier 4
EMI1.8
speed of the rotary movement of the substrate 4 can be 10-15 rev / sec.
The emission paste is from the storage container 8, which is provided with a stirrer 7 or the like, by means of a circulating pump 6 into the cover

Bring layer material to keep constant.
An air duct 5 is arranged next to the covering roller 1, through which the air jet stripping the film passes at the end of the covering process.
The roll 1 and the substrate 4 are in the

Time switch controlled, which is triggered when the substrate and emission paste come into contact.
With 10 is a regulating resistor and with 11 a
