Compensation valve for prostheses
Various designs of prosthetic valves are already known (for example according to German patent specification No. 746781), in which the ventilation of the interior of the
The prosthesis takes place automatically.
These valves work in such a way that the internal or external overpressure acts directly on a valve. In order to achieve a reliable effect, it is necessary to keep the area of the valves acted upon by the air pressure correspondingly large, so that the control forces

seal on the seat) predominate sufficiently.
The present invention is suitable for improving the reliability of the operation of prosthetic valves with automatic air flow. This happens because the external overpressure acts on a well-sealing, easily movable control element with a relatively large effective area, e.g. B. an elastic membrane acts, which controls the movement of a small inlet valve, which is insensitive to contamination and changes in the frictional forces.
Such an arrangement has the advantage that the indirectly actuated inflow valve is moved by relatively large control forces and yet with small dimensions, that is, insensitive to contamination, and with small guide surfaces. can be produced.
According to the invention, it is also provided that the controlling membrane, via its outer edge that can be lifted off, also effects the venting of the prosthesis in the case of internal overpressure like a flap valve and can also be used as a seal for the inflow valve. The drawing shows an embodiment of a compensating valve according to the invention.
An opening 2 leads from the interior 3 to the outside through the wall 1 of the prosthesis body. In the opening a ring 4 is attached, into which a valve housing 5 is screwed and sealed by means of the seal 6. The valve housing is in communication with the interior of the prosthesis through the bore 7 and with the outside air through the bore 8. In the valve housing 5 there is a movable piston 9 which carries the clamped control membrane 10 and is loaded by a control spring 11. Bores 12 lead through the piston 9 to the diaphragm, furthermore a bore 13 under the valve seat 14, on which the diaphragm rests in the rest position of the valve. The springs 15 shown schematically only cause the control membrane to rest in a sealing manner on the shoulder 16 of the valve housing.
Mode of action:
As soon as by pressing movement of the amputated body part inside the
EMI1.2
membrane 10, lifts it off and the air escapes through the holes 8 to the outside.
If the suction movement creates a negative pressure, the outer edge of the control diaphragm 10 is pressed by the external air pressure onto the shoulder 16 of the valve housing, the air pressure on the flexible middle part of the control diaphragm pushes the piston 9 upwards against the force of the control spring 11 and opens it Inflow valve at valve seat 14. Air now flows into the interior of the prosthesis until the force of the control spring 11 again exceeds the excess pressure of the outside air on the membrane surface and the valve is closed by the spring force. In this way, the negative pressure created inside the prosthesis is automatically limited to a certain level, which is dependent on the force action of the control spring 11, and prevents excessively low negative pressures with unpleasant physiological effects from occurring.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Compensating valve for prostheses with automatically acting on or off. Outflow valve, characterized in that the inflow valve is indirectly controlled by a control element which seals on the valve housing (5), is easily movable and is acted upon by the external air pressure, e.g. B. elastic membrane (10), is operated with a relatively large effective area compared to the dimensions of the inlet valve (13).
